Seriously. What are some of these posters' problems?!

My point is that $5M Seems like a big overpay for someone who has zero NCAA head coaching experience. But Whitman did the same thing with Lovie and people are happy right now.

If I was a big $$$$ booster I would throw stupid money at one of the half dozen candidates who have been proven commodities in college - Marshall, Miller, etc.

From the east:

Tony Bennett

Archie Miller

Buzz Williams

Bryce Drew

Dan Hurley

Will Wade

Keep going east just a bit more and add Dan Majerle and Larry Krystkowiak. That is, of course, if you aren't a flat earth truther [emoji6]

The heavy rumors are pointing to Alford, not Miller or Marshall to IU.

And then Miller goes to UCLA. He would then be competing against his brother in the same league. Kind of cool.

Er, not for us, of course.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
I think we might have to prepare for the fact that Mizzou is sitting on a potential gold mine of recruits unlike their program has ever seen. That being said, in five years I'm not sure they'll be any better off than us if we make the right coaching hire.

It feels like a short-term boost. Porter Sr. probably won't stick around long.

Not sure what that reporter was expecting to get out of him at that moment.

Yeah, you are NEVER going to say it is something that you are considering right after a season ending loss. Someone was going to ask the question, but the answer was always going to be a denial of some sort. Also note that he said "no thoughts" not "no chance" or "not interested"

Consider This:

Who's going to be more appealing to big time recruits?

Keatts who coached at UNC Wilmington and flamed out of the tournament a couple of times and used to coach at a prep school.

Or:

Monty Williams: who coached in the NBA and USA basketball and who has good relationships with the biggest names in the game.

Well considering Indiana was in the question, if he's not even considering that one then his list must be incredibly short.

Is Archie the only name out there that nobody has complaints about?

Seems like it. I think he's in everyone's top 3 or 4. I think lots of people prefer one of Monty, Bennett, Marshall, or Scott Drew, but Archie is right in that pack and less divisive than the other top candidates.

My list is 1) Monty, 2) Archie, 3) Bennett, 4) Bryce Drew, 5) Marshall, 6) Buzz Williams, 7) Scott Drew. I'm convinced that every one of these guys would be a home run hire. The thing with Archie is he has no warts: high character/good reputation, likable/dynamic personality, proven winner, plenty of experience, plays a fun style, good recruiter with midwest roots. Also has less important but still potentially helpful bonuses: was a good college player, brother is one of the top coaches in the country, etc. Every other candidate has at least one big question mark or perceived deficiency.

They lost to Duke and Virginia in close games. Also Keatts is an experienced recruiter based on his time around top prospects as a high school coach and at Louisville. Monty would probably be a great recruiter, but Keatts could also potentially knock it out of the park.

So I'm guessing this means between now and Monday Alford will go to IU and UCLA will steal Monty. We have to have our "so Illinois" moment right? Then the insiders will post "we had him but coaching searches are fluid".:D

Unless UCLA loses this weekend, you will be wrong. I do think there is a good chance Alford ends up at IU.

If college coaching was just about recruiting, could have saved ourselves the money and just hired Cuonzo. Also, it's not like Keatts can't recruit

Recruiting is the name of the game in college basketball. Keatts hasn't brought in big time prospects as a head coach. Keatts may have done well here. Who knows?

Point is, elite prospects, (especially the kids from Chicago), want to get to the NBA ASAP. Monty is someone they would have to listen to based on his experience and contacts.

I remember when jkat wasn't an insider. I guess we all just take turns around here?
