Very excited to see my old high school Fenwick make its first ever championship game. We've had some pretty good players pass through, but never made it this far.

Rick Malnati is a big time HS coach and the family pizza is not too bad either.:)

Fenwick-MP for 3A title tomorrow. Nick Irvin is excited. Ayo probably out but MP still has a lot of weapons.

No way Tilmon leaves Illinois until after he finds out who the new coach is and if Walker is staying or not. Those answers will come in the next few weeks and I believe Illinois can block schools that he can go to like Missouri or other Big Ten schools. He should just stay at Illinois he has a bright future here!!

Illinois can not block any recruit from going to any school since the coach has been fired.

actually that's not true. They technically don't have to let him out of his commitment letter at all. schools have customarily obliged a players request for release during a coaching change however.

They're not going to deny him from leaving. It would be a PR nightmare.

If you transfer, you have to complete the one-year residency requirement at the new school. So you have to sit out again, unless you are granted a waiver exception. Luke Recker is an example where a waiver was granted.

Those waivers are no longer available, so all transfers have to sit a season with the only exception being the grad students.

Well said, we cannot reasonably stop Tilmon from leaving. The only thing we can do is hire the new coach, let him talk to the young man, and then grant Tilmon's release from the NLOI after said meeting.

You're speaking in terms of culture. I'm speaking in terms of actual rules. LOI offer no automatic release do to coaching changes. Schools have just customarily chosen to grant the releases.

Simeon 60, Bolingbrook 50. Simeon-Young for 4A Title. Love Talen Horton-Tucker and Evan Gilyard.

Schools are de facto required to release recruits from their NLOI in our situation. It's not really worth discussing further.

I don't mean to sound rude, but this is a little off topic.

You don't sound rude. You sound wrong. And you are.

Better luck next time.

Yes, schools are not required to release players who signed LOI. Of course, if a coach leaves, or is fired, they do. There have been times when players were released with stipulations.

since you don't like discussing, please read this http://assets.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/bilas_jay/1541904.html

Also Paigncake was nice to only note one wrong point of yours, but this discussion is on topic. We're talking about the rules of recruiting.

Needless to say for the 3rd time, culturally institutions grant the student-athlete releases for PR issues.

A few observations from watching the tournament and taking my mind off the coaching search thread. Love Te'Jon, but respect for Groce going after Brunson, Evans and Snider. Brunson is a national champ. Gottlieb (for whatever his opinion is worth) says Evans is the next Chris Paul.. and Snider is a stud. Good luck in your next position Groce, can't knock him for identifying and going after the best.

Not that anybody cares or is paying attention (except KrushCow). Ayo on crutches, and down by 11 with 3:00 to go in the 4th q, Morgan Park comes back to win 3A title in OT over Fenwick, 69-67. Great game.
Ayo, hope you saw what Evans did yesterday!

Keeping Walker SHOULD allow us to keep our class in tact and maybe even grab Smith. Underwood isn't known for recruiting, but I think he will do fine. An uptempo system like his can be easy to sell kids. As long as our assistants are strong recruiters we will be in very good shape.

If Underwood and Walker are here its hard to see why Tilmon would really want to jump ship just to play for Gonzo. Cmon lets keep the boys together!

Gonzo is Gonzaga. Cuonzo is Mizzou.

I think Walker pretty much seals it if that happens.
