This guy was offered by USF in July 2015

Don't know anything about him other than what's listed.

JUCO transfer Kyvon Davenport was also offered by USF, but only yesterday, so I don't know if Antigua was in on him

I was thinking the same thing. However, if he wants his release from his NLI from Illinois, just tell BU he doesn't think he'd be a good fit with his style of basketball. Don't throw out the smoke screen via Instagram when a couple days earlier he recommitted to the Illini. Let's hope this doesn't start a domino effect with the other recruits. Finally, Cunzo Martin sniffing around when Tilllman was signed sealed and all but delivered doesn't set will with Illini fans.

We still have to get used to the fact that we have a quality (no clown shoes) athletic department with a quality coaching staff and excellent recruiters. Let's just trust in our people and let them do their work. Our program is going to sell itself. If the kid is lazy, can't meet academic requirements, or wants a free pass on easy classes then Illinois might not be for him. UW's kids are going to have to work their tails off and Illinois expects their student athletes to actually be students. It's not for everyone. The kids that ARE up for that sort of thing are going to get a LOT out of it. Can't wait to finalize the staff and see what the team is actually going to look like this fall. I think we're going to be amazing in 2-4 years.

Another JUCO transfer with recent USF (3/30/17) offer is Raynere Thornton, who also has recent offers from Kansas State, Memphis, and SLU.

Again, I don't know if Antigua would have been on him, as he was offered a couple of months after he left.

Tilmon's comments are weird, and completely at odds with his sentiments towards Illinois when he signed his NLOI. It even sounds like he *could* come back to Illinois when all is said and done (however, we're all too familiar with this kind of scenario). I'm curious what contingencies are being worked as we speak by the new staff...

This kid is a stud. Have some competition for him, Louisville is the most recent. But he's a dog. Tough, atheltic, and an explosive scorer. He would start over JCL next season if we landed him.

I really hope everyone on here lets go of any notion that Tilmon is still going to come here. Really...don't set yourself up for more disappointment.

Lets lock up Okoro now so we can forget about Tilmon. I bet Antigua is gonna fill that hole with a JUCO player or something. I hope JT has some success wherever he goes but I wish these kids had a little more integrity these days!!! No way in hell my kid pulls this B.S. I was taught my word is my word. If your not 100% sure about your decisions then dont make a decision. I guess the ol school is out, new school shadiness/no honesty is the new norm. I'm done, good luck JT.

You have to look out for yourself, because no one else will. Schools 'crean' kids all the time. Granted no one was probably going to 'crean' Tilmon, but the principle remains. Schools act in their best interest, and kids better act in theirs.

If we hire Chin Coleman today we can start talking about a backcourt of Frazier, Monte, and Ayo!

I really have the feeling (for quite awhile) throughout the Tilmon recruitment, that he loves the attention, the adulation, the focus, etc...by getting the release, he can start it all up again.

If this is the fact the same situation he and his family feel "stuck" in, he is using as the golden parachute for himself. If we can replace with instant contributor, I say recruit/sign/pull scholarship offer and be the lead on pushing forward, not waiting on being yanked back and forth.

Tilmon is doing nothing illegal or in violation. NOTHING. It is perfectly legal, as it should be, that a player can ask to be released. You are trying to make a case that because he signed an LOI he can't ask out or he should not ask out or he should stay with UI. That is not the case.

Because there was a buyout in Underwood's contract it is OK, versus if there wasn't it would not be OK? The buyout just protects the University, it is not that if the buyout did not exist Underwood would not leave. C'mon, if Underwood did not have a buyout, he would still leave, just that OSU would get nothing.

There is really no difference. In case of Underwood, the penalty for leaving is a buyout, in case of Tilmon, the penalty would be not play basketball next year. Yet, the NCAA allows players to ask for their release, and if that release is granted, the NCAA has no issue. The NLI also has nothing to do with enrolling at Mizzou or any other school. Tilmon could do that tomorrow, just that without the release, he can't play basketball because of NCAA rules, not because of "honor" or that "it is not right."

I understand why people would be upset, but we had a coaching change. What Tilmon is doing is normal given the situation. I don't think people need to be adding all sorts of armchair psychology to the decision. Not to mention we just poached a coach who was under contract. This was a risk, and a very good one I think, and Timon's decision was disappointing but not shocking

Not to bag specifically on you for this, but man I hate these posts. If you are so emotionally invested in a 17-18 year old kid coming to Illinois that you can't handle the rejection of him choosing to go elsewhere, then step back and re-evaluate some things. Everyone here should know by now this was a possibility. Hope for the best. And it's ok to be disappointed if he choses somewhere else.

I've already put Tilmon behind me. I'll be happy with a player who wants to come and play ball at Illinois.

Easy to say that now, but better tell that to all people and posters who were not happy with Tate. Reality is that you (and I mean that in general, not you in particular) will be happy with players who perform (often correlated with ability/skills) and unhappy with players who don't. :)

Meh... it makes zero difference and just reflects bad on UI. We made a coaching change, a kid decides to ask out of NLI, the right thing to do it to release the player, which I am sure we will.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with what Tilmon is doing....there is also absolutely NOTHING wrong if the ILLINI decide to release (they will), and move forward (they will imo).

Then both parties live with their decisions and best of luck to all! Shouldn't be looked at any other way imo!

Ah... I do not think that qualifies. I think for Tilmon, it came down to Illinois, SLU, and Kansas, and you can add Mizzou (although committed) as a late push. If you count all schools that offered scholarships, then it becomes a very long list. But then, it would be the same as saying MSU beat us for someone like Nick Ward, I would not count those.

Tilmon is a 1&done wannabe, waiting for that Kentucky offer.

I wish that BU would consider Shane Heirman for that 3rd spot. He's got great relationships with many AAU coaches and recruits lots of great players to LaLu every year. He is an amazing X's and O's coach. If he gets hired could he bring Brian Bowen with him?

My dad and I were talking last night (I am a casual recruiting follower, as in check the front page of IL and click on the thread if there's a headline, and he barely follows it), and - though I admit to being an open optimist - this is not that big of a deal. I would have loved to have Tilmon, but we made a change knowing full well that we were going to try to prioritize Xs and Os coaching over just recruiting. I mean, John Groce could recruit JUST fine, and we simply needed more than that. We more or less just missed out on a Leron Black rankings-wise, right? It sucks, but we'll survive, and we still have a pretty nice core of players for Underwood's first 2-3 years. Let's make a Tournament or two, let this staff do its thing and really get the ball rolling. :chief:

Canada vis Indiana pipeline?

Hoops Hype Canada class of 2017 Rankings

# 9 on this list is a 7' (listed at 7'-2" on Verbal Commits website) who attends something called Don Bosco Prep in Indiana (previously at Hargrave Military Academy).

Verbal Commits shows him as a 2* with offers from UTEP and SIU, but to my far-from-expert eye, he looks better than a 2*. Looks like he gets up and down the floor pretty well and has a decent stroke. Maybe a project big?

I love shooting. That is one of the most impressive highlight tapes I've ever seen. And now we have the space...

How hard is he being recruited by schools closer to his hometown than CU IL? Schools like Louisville + Butler (Indianapolis) have to have a better shot given his situation, no? This seems like a reach.

I have seen Tilmon many times and maybe he wants to be a 1-n-done, but he is very far from that level. I'd be very surprised if he leaves college before his junior year (unless for other reasons). I am not saying that now, I have always said that on this board throughout his recruitment/commitment.

Very good potential, he was IMO the most critical recruit in Illinois, we definitely need someone like Tilmon, I really like him. Yet, I think he is overrated. Two different things.
