Kinda funny Tilmon has a slew of Miznoz CB's when supposedly Cuanzo has not been in touch with him. That dude must be swimming in the grey area.

I always worried about Tilmon, and I feel like he would have pulled something like this even if Groce stayed. People have been in that kid's ear, but oh well... we will move on and be just fine. Tilmon's game needs work and he's not a guaranteed stud, but I wish we could have held on and tried to mold him into a great player in a few years.

Strangest thing about him - 66.2% FT shooter.

A little weird, but this kid is clearly a FOREST shooter based on his body angle, dip, swish-and-sway, and insane range. Honestly, outside of basic hand-eye coordination and depth perception there's not much overlap between 3pt shooting and free throw shooting. Unless you're a BEEF shooter, that is. In that case, there's plenty of technique overlap. Either way, he should work on his FT shooting - it just doesn't have much to do with his long-range acumen.

Maybe Tilmon finally saw video of BU's playing style and is unsure he wants to run that much. Maybe JG just got a job and JT wants to check it out. Maybe he just wants to be honest about checking out other schools and was feeling guilty about leading us on. While disappointed, for a kid his age it's understandable. Much better than the CA hat trick on national TV.

I actually thought his re-tweet seemed like his version of CA's hat trick - just very odd. Whatever, he's just kid. I've got no problem with him asking for his release. Time to move on for both parties.

He may be a 1 & done wannabe but he will need at least 3 years in college

I hope for his sake that Cuonzo has someone on his staff that can develop his big man game over those three years, because I'm not sure Cuonzo is known for that.

I'm willing to go on a limb here and say that Tilmon is following Groce to Akron! Any takers?????

So imagine your kid, fresh out of college (let alone high school) accepted a job offer, and then came to you a few days later and said, "Oh, Dad, I think I made a huge mistake. I took the job because I felt like everyone expected me to, and I felt like I had to make a decision, and maybe I was too hasty, but I think it was a mistake and I think I'd be happier with another job -- I just don't think it's for me!" Are you saying your response would be, "Sorry, kiddo, it's too late. You have to go work at that job you now realize you don't want for at least a year before entertaining any other possibilities. Yeah, maybe you'll be miserable and constantly second guessing yourself, and maybe your work there won't be very good because you're unhappy, and maybe that company will spend a ton of time and effort training you, only to have you leave in a year, but your word is your bond and that's it! Maybe this will teach you a lesson to never make a choice unless you are 100% certain that it is not only a good decision, but the BEST possible decision, even if another unexpected option pops up later."?

I get the disappointment and frustration, but it doesn't serve anyone well to have a kid go somewhere he doesn't want to be.

All I'm saying is my kid wouldn't be thanking the University in his release letter, instead he would be apologizing for jumping the gun and owning up to the mistake that he made a commitment that he's not honoring. Maybe I was raised different.

Does anyone in the country have a better pitch to Tilmon as far as developing him for the league than Antigua? He's worked with and developed some of the best bigs in the world right now. KAT was raw, AD was a big man for only one year before UK, Cousins needed tools before being NBA ready, and they all left after one year and succeeded rather quickly at the next level. Obviously, the talent gap is rather large when talking about those players, but I'd like to think Antigua can do some special things with a Leron Black or a (Longshot) Jeremiah Tilmon still. I understand he is probably gone after this long back and forth process, but he did mention CLEARLY we are still in the running because of Walker and now with Antigua on staff and his mother on board, UI still seems like his best choice.

Agree. Tilmon has to decide if the allure of playing 2nd or 3rd fiddle at Mizzou with a coach who has a rep for not winning with talented players and not really developing them is greater than staying here. His choice to make, his choice to live with. It's up to him.

How hard is he being recruited by schools closer to his hometown than CU IL? Schools like Louisville + Butler (Indianapolis) have to have a better shot given his situation, no? This seems like a reach.

A lot of schools have been in contact. Utah, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Louisville and of course ILLINI. Our chances are VERY good.

If I were Underwood, I would tell Tilmon to look at what Martin did with Raab and how his stock went from a 1st rounder (maybe lottery pick) after his first year, to late 1st round, maybe second round this year. So yes, go and make your dreams come true with Martin, the guy that can't win with 2 5 start recruits and a ton of talent.

This kind of takes the wind out of the sails of all the "Your word is your bond" and "this kid has no honor" posters.

Now would be a good time to mention that John Calipari will be in to see 4-star combo guard Mark Smith today. Dead period ends at noon.

John Calipari also expected to visit with 4-star shooting guard and former Cal signee Jemarl Baker (6-2, 165) Friday
This is #notideal from our standpoint, but how awesome does this have to be for Mark Smith?

Tilmon is a 1&done wannabe, waiting for that Kentucky offer.

Nkt sure why you think this? He had offers from Kansas and North Carolina. He clearly wasn't chasing a blue blood offer. He's also, to my knowledge, never made a stating proclaiming he's a one and done

Spot on....hope someone around him has the brains to see this.

Tevo, you do raise a good point, but how many kids get 9 to 12 months to mull over job offers? Tilmon had an ample amount of time to weigh his options. He also had ample time after Groce was fired to ask for his release. He also had ample time after meeting with Underwood to ask for his release. Had he not retweeted his commitment to Illinois on Monday, and then decide on Wednesday to ask for his release, I'm guessing there wouldn't be as much cynicism or frustration.

I wholeheartedly agree he should go where he wants to go. But I don't think your analogy is apples to apples here. And while I would support my son if he wanted to make a change like that, I would also reprimand him on the way he went about making the decision. And had he asked for my opinion, I would have helped him with his announcement of said decision.

Really. Izzo and Cal in your living room in a 7 day period and in August you were thinking it's Wright State or SIU-Edwardsville.

+1

Maybe it wasn't handled as well as it could have been, but it's far more important for him to make the right choice (as he defines it, not us).

I agree with others that Tilmon is not a sure-fire pro. He's got post moves and size, so he's pegged as a guy with a high ceiling. In a power conference, though, you need to show a lot more than that to separate from the field.

Everyone stop hoping tilmon decides to come to Illinois. It is NOT happening. He will be at Mizzou.

Our chances of Tilmon are zero lol, why would he ask out if he really wanted to go here? Obviously he hopes he finds something better, likely in Mizzou, and is ditching us asap.
