I have a strong feeling that Amauri Hardy will be coming to Illinois. Slashing lefty combo guard who is built like a Free Safety - going to be rocked up after a year or two with Fletch. Very athletic, decent shooter, explosive scorer who can finish at the rim. Uses lots of hesitation and spin moves to get in the lane. Good passer. Plays angry. Will get some highlight dunks.

Why is he not a top-100 player? 1) Seems to be just an okay outside shooter, 2) PG size, but doesn't have the handle (weak right hand - always goes left), 3) very good athlete (would be potentially the best on our team), but not a freak (similar to Da'Monte athletically - probably a little quicker).

I'd definitely take him. Hyper aggressive scoring guard who will rack up steals on defense. Not highly rated because at the end of the day he's a 6'1 shooting guard who can't go right and isn't a lights-out shooter. Okay ball handler and pretty good shooter, so don't be afraid. Probably won't end up as good as Jevon Carter from WVU, but I feel like there are some similarities.

Good luck to Javon and Jeremiah in their future. I, as an illini fan, cannot blame those kids because the staff they signed up to play for is not here. At the same time I am not worried about where Illini basketball is headed. I like the staff that is being assembled and we will be in a very good place very shortly.

I also believe we are going to get some kids soon who are not even on the radar on this board and we are going to be pleasantly surprised. This staff knows what they are doing.

Well, I guess now we will see the type of players that Underwood wants. With the available scholarships he has the chance to immediately reshape the roster. It will be interesting to see who they go after.

Thinking it will look something like:

Frazier/Williams/Hardy all guards and if we fill out 2 more and not carry over anyone....I would bet on an athletic 3-4 combo type and a slender 4-5 athletic type...now who they are?

Not as of today

I'm thinking they release him after Orlando gets an opportunity to talk with him on Monday or Tuesday. This also buys time for mom and dad to battle it out and it get's us past the big Missouri recruiting weekend.

Let's hope we keep Frazier and Da'Monte and see what the new staff have up their sleeve.
They have an exciting style to sell.

Letter of intent question about Tilmon

I'm over Tilmon, but I have one last thought I'd like opinions on that no one is talking about.

Isn't Porter Jr. talking to Tilmon a violation of "NCAA Bylaw - 13.02.13 Representative of Athletics Interests" since his father is now a paid coach at Missouri. I understand that the two kids could talk before the hiring, but after he got hired he was still talking to Tilmon openly on snapchat, Twitter and other platforms.

Isn't against the rules for coaches family members (spouse, kids, mom. etc.) to recruit and encourage them to change their mind.

Just making sure I'm not losing my mind.

Any thoughts on this?

With Missouri having all of the Top 50 recruits coming in next year, how will they fit in Pickett?!? Do they have 51 scholarships available?!?!?

I have intentionally sat back for the last few days to let the hysteria die down from the Tillman decommitment and now the Pickett decommitment...I have been an Illini fan for over 40 years and the best teams I have seen play consisted of players who desired to wear the orange and blue...I do not see these decommitments as a negative whatsoever… If these players really do not want to be at the University of Illinois then give them their release and wish them luck… I truly believe that coach Underwood will find players who will fit his system as he described during his press conference… These are the type of players we want as long as they want to wear the orange and blue… I have no doubt the coach Underwood and his ever-growing staff already have players in mind Who fit the system… Some of you may think that losing the above players puts us back in our recovery as a basketball program… I disagree… I believe this allows coach Underwood to not have to work around players he did not initially recruit and who do not clearly fit his system… Now he can go after players that do fit his system… I think our basketball program just got better over the last few days

Not to be Johnny Rain Cloud but I can't help but think that the Illini's entire recruiting class of 2017 may now ask to be released from their NLI.

I highly doubt Frazier is going anywhere. He's been consistently overt with his intention to play at Illinois.

I don't have issues with any of these kids asking out of their NLIs. I just find it weird that they met with BU, reconfirmed their commitment to UI, and then asked out. I just think that maybe something is up. Maybe the staff has other students that they want to bring in.

Now I'm also starting to believe that Smith might probably not come to Illinois. If he doesn't I wish him the best. I still hope he chooses Illinois.

Would be interesting if we ended up with Tugs, Justin Smith, and the Kansas transfer. Would most likely be the Michigan kid who got overlooked by both Michigans.

Side note: I love Trent Frazer. This kid loves Illinois and he's not even from the state. You kinda get the feeling that with everything happening, he wants to prove to everyone that they made a bad decision to not come to UI.

I was also wondering if we could not issue the release for both he and Picket and put the caveat that they can't transfer to any schools in the SEC, B1G, A10. then see if they still want it.

YOU CAN NOT RESTRICT KIDS YOU RELEASE FROM AN LOI

I guess I expected to lose most or all of this class and was a bit surprised so many of you thought differently. A kid signs up to play for a coach they've grown comfortable with through time. When that coach leaves, the comfort level is thrown into chaos. Who likes chaos?

Mizzou got a sexy hire that reversed all the racist PR they suffered a few years ago. Our window for being the #1 destination for StL kids was short lived.

I'm super excited to have BU but the cost of changing coaches was predictable. I hope we keep Frazier and am glad Williams is a legacy.

people keep saying this, but I think it makes Illinois look bad. Just give them their release unconditionally
