Or two. I could see him wanting to play for Groce, but wanting to play with his buddy Tilmon more. Tilmon leaves, Groce gets a job...boom.

IMO, it appears he & Tilmon might be verily tight. Unlike some, I can't blame him for wanting to look around. He does not have a relationship with coach Underwood.
If they both leave, we will probably add a player, either a 5th year senior, or a recruit. Right now, it appears we may have 4 scholarships for next year.

Never good to have a top 15 recruiting class disappear. Tilmon big loss as would have played significant minutes next year at a needed spot for us. Pickett less of a loss immediately as minutes would have been hard to come by next year but I think could have developed into a good player. One of the big questions going forward is can Illinois be competitive in the Big next year to gain some momentum for future years. BU is certainly a good coach but looking at the current roster minus Tilmon and or Smith the talent level does not look like top half or NCAA caliber. Making the tournament will be a tough and we could be looking at a 5 or 6 win season in the Big which will make recruiting even tougher.

This is/was a likelihood for next year regardless of Tilmon and Pickett staying.

First time poster...long time reader....I would like to consider the U of I block Tilmon from transferring to Missouri and any B10 school. It is rivalry...no one said it had to play nice! Make someone accountable for the games that have been played. This is legal and 100% should be done! I saw one comment about this but it never got any traction. Any thoughts why not? BIg boy basketball is played dirty these days in recruiting.

You can only put these stipulations on players who transfer. Not on getting out if an NLI.

Right. It is ok for a school to raid another school for a coach It's ok for a coach to leave a school he commits to after one year has long has he is our coach. But goodness if a 18 year old kid changes his mind we need to step up and do something.

Amauri Hardy has already spoke with Underwood and BU told him he would offer him if a scholarship came open--maybe Picketts spot??:D

An Illinois player with a chip on his shoulder? I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Hardy said he hasn't received interest from Michigan or Michigan State. He got offers from Central Michigan, Detroit Mercy and Eastern Michigan.

"If the situation opens up at Illinois, I would definitely inquire about it," he said. "Playing in the Big Ten, I'd be trying to get payback since Michigan and Michigan State never recruited me. It's like, 'Wow, seems like you want to get the talent from your home state.' "

Except this time he's much closer to being justified.

In my opinion losing Pickett does not add any additional sting on top of losing Tilmon. In fact, I would assume the staff moved on from him once Tilmon was gone.

Pretty impressive that Hardy averaged 29 ppg, 6 rpg, 6 steals, and 4 apg. Plus I found it interesting that he has never signed a NLI.

Very impressive. And he fits the system, is a ball thief and hates both Michigan's. Perfect fit.

I'll be honest, I'm a little bitter about the decommittments. I understand decommittments happen after coaching changes, but why reaffirm your commitment only to rescind it a short time later?

If we get both guys back, great. If not and BU spurns these guys and gets a couple of guys he wants this late in the game, I'll be impressed.

We are about to see how great of a recruiter BU truly is....I think he is pretty impressive, charismatic, and polished communicator who has slot of potential as a P5 recruiter but he needs time to establish himself and his sales force! We are going to take some lumps early but will succeed over time IMO! If he can keep 1 of these decommits or sign comparable replacements late - then the sky is the limit!

Would not be surprised with Tilmon, Smith would shock me however..MSU or us I think.

Pickett replacement...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t-oPMdQWe4, plus this would get us into that recruiting base as well....3-4 of the top players in that area committed to Marquette, including Hardy's teammate Ike Eke 6'9 (third team state)

Ha, ha! That Maurice Scott Jr. character was busted for cocaine possession. Great credibility.

Closer, not fully justified.

I don't want to suggest for a moment that Walker was kept on as a bargaining chip for recruits. And losing Tilmon is one thing (sounds like a full-blown soap opera). But Walker is supposed to bring to the table staff continuity and a soft touch on St. Louis area recruits. If that doesn't scream Pickett, I don't know what does.

Again, I sincerely feel that Walker was retained because Underwood thought it was a good idea, and we have to trust the HC here. It could very well be that keeping Walker around, in addition to benefiting from his coaching chops, is going to help us retain pieces of our existing roster, and that sort of info may never see the light of day.

Point is, Walker just stumbled on something that was supposed to be his forte. It isn't unreasonable to raise your eyebrows here. Our remaining two recruits are a legacy guy and some random Floridian who apparently has pure Kool-Aid flowing through his veins.

member how Brad Underwood said he recruited players that fit, and did not worry so much about how many stars a player had on a recruiting board.

I member.
