So, if we finish this class with Smith/Hardy, Kiir, Bragg, and Bowen......would everyone be happy ?

The 'and Bowen' part at the end would be a pretty important part of being happy with it. I have a strong feeling there will be 1-2 names in the class that have not been discussed here.

I can agree with this statement more. But improvement in college and avoiding major injury shaves down those margins.

And lets be honest here. Go through the list of comparables to Tilmon who didn't make it, and you're going to find an awful lot of recruitments that look pretty similar to Tilmon's. 3 high schools in 3 years, decommitments, behind the scenes drama at every stage of the process, lots of different influences pulling in different directions, there is a correlation between that stuff and not living up to potential in the end.

This right here.

It's really a pity to see people on here still hating on Tilmon. He is clearly stuck in a tough spot. I wish him all the best regardless of where he goes.

I also want to echo the sentiment that we will have some future signees who are not currently on our radar.

Not really that tough for him. Most likely he's committing to

I guess I'll dream big until shut down. Chuck Martin while at Indiana was lead recruiter for Mohamed Bamba. Bamba hails from Harlem and as we know Martin and Coach O are from the Bronx.

Bambas recruitment has been a complete mystery. Once thought to be a Duke lean, he then cooled on them and it seemed UK was in lead. A recent article by UK insider says he isn't sure that is case any longer. Texas may have grabbed Bamba's eye. Heres to hoping our NYC dream team can pull off a miracle.

Stop getting my hopes up :(

This being said can you link the article?

Go find me the position-inflexible bigs who are hanging onto NBA bench spots. It's different now. Bobby Portis is sliding out of the league and he's the kind of player we were crossing our fingers and hoping Tilmon might become.

Portis has been greatly mishandled by Hoiberg. It seems like when he gets sustained minutes he gets a lot of rebounds & he is a pretty good shooter, even from three. Hubie Brown agrees with me, that all he needs is minutes. I watch the Bulls all the time & have no idea what Hoiberg does with his rotation. Players start, get benched, get do not plays, don't dress, & then start again.

Since Portis was SEC player of the year at 19, just a couple years ago, I think we'd be very happy if we had a big like him.

The NBA has fewer and fewer players like Tilmon, they don't favor size like they used to.

But that's beside the point. The number of players out of every class who have real careers is super limited. Maybe like 20, depending on the class, and that includes foreigners.

The cup of coffee thing is trickier, I'm not going to fight you on that one (though 75% is clearly high. Top 10 recruits are only about that high.)

The point is, the Tilmon family is a long way and pretty long odds from truly life-changing money. No one would sell them a million dollar insurance policy at this point, that's for sure.

What is life changing money? If a player slides into the bottom of the first round he is guaranteed about a million plus every year for three years. If he makes the roster & sits at the end of the bench he will make over $525,000. If he has to go overseas generally a player will make $65,000 to $100,000, sometimes more. Not lottery money, but not bad for 4 or 5 months.

Disagreeing that he has a 75% shot at the league isn't hating on him. I think (hope) we'd all welcome his commitment again without hesitation.

I was referring to those who were taking out their frustrations earlier, you're good.

I agree with you, a player in the 25-30 range is 50% chance at best to make the NBA.

Since I don't sleep and I'm interested in the actually percentage I did the research:

I used the Top 25-35 recruits according to Rivals

2006: 3 Players Drafted
2007: 5 Players Drafted and 1 Undrafted Made Roster
2008: 5 Players Drafted
2009: 3 Players Drafted and 1 Undrafted Made Roster
2010: 4 Players Drafted
2011: 4 Players Drafted and 1 Undrafted Made Roster
2012: 5 Players Drafted

I would say 50% is pretty spot on

That won't happen haha. Despite the new staff and general optimism, we aren't a blue blood, and we aren't going to sweep in last minute on a 5 star.

I agree it is extremely unlikely and I wouldn't even mention it without the New York angle and prior relationship with Martin. This kid is spending one year in college, so maybe he would like to spend it with a couple fellow New Yorkers?

Regardless in future recruiting battles, I think it has to be acknowledged that we are better positioned for Blue Blood fights with the staff we are assembling.

Henricksen received so many Illini-related questions he just devoted an entire "mailbag" to us:

Gotta love being Illini.

Commenting on my own post, Henricksen carefully makes some criticisms of BU for not reaching out to the top CPL coaches and not paying attention to the HS championship game. It's helpful and I think he is *RIGHT* about the missed opportunities here.

Henricksen is a CHICAGO guy, so I think he's a bit biased. But without knowing BU's itinerary, I hope he ends the contact drought with the key Chicago coaches ASAP. The moment the current dead period ends, BU should be in touch with the city of Chicago peeps. Just do it.

32 out of 77 is 42.8%

I'm gonna declare victory, thanks for getting the data together! :thumb:

Pretty small sample size. It is interested to compare the past 10 years to what is going to happen in the next 10 years. I would like to see how AAU will benefit or hurt the ranking/player transition to the NBA.

Thanks for doing research. Was that sample all players, just bigs etc?

I'm no math genius, and if there is an earlier post I missed which explains what this means, please let me know, but I don't know how your numbers add up. (And if your last line is sarcasm, I apologize for my denseness this early.)

I'm reading this as 3 our of 25 (it could be 35, but lets use 25 to skew the percentages), 6/25, 5/25, 4/25, 4/25, 5/25, 5/25.....yeah it's 32, but out of (25 X 7) 175....which is 18%.

Am I missing something or have I forgotten how to work a calculator?

OPPS...forget it, I reread the post and the one above...I guess you were just taking those guys 25-35, and not the top 25/35.
