Realistically, the rule should be that if a coaching change occurs the LOIs that are in place should immediately be rescinded and the player is immediately a free agent and elligible to look at more schools. Usually these kids are signing with a particular coach and not a school anyway.

Should the rule change? Maybe. Either way, it works to this effect anyways. The NLI clearly states that they are committing to a school not a coach. It can't make it much clearer than how it is stated.

Again though, after a coaching change, they are generally let out of the NLI anyways.

In my opinion it does not matter who plays the one or the two… It did not matter between Dee and Deron...It would not matter between Frazier and Smith… It would depend upon matchups and what coach wants to run at the time...the last two times Illinois went to the final four did we not have interchangeable parts?

I strongly disagree. Smith is just a lot more skilled than TJL IMO. I believe they could play together, but if im choosing a starting PG its Smith.

If TJL isn't starting and we get a big man we are on our way. TJL is a talented pg and may also be a decent scorer in the long run. He was the fourth or fifth option this year and shot .375 from 3 pt line. If either TF or MS beat him out we have a great set of guards.

Also, I remember hearing BU say in one of his early interviews after taking the UI job that he had a starting point guard at SFA who averaged like 2 ppg, but he couldn't take him off the court because he played such good defense and ran the offense so well. I don't think TJL will only average 2, but it tells me that BU might value other things in a pg besides shooting.

I'm telling you, TJL is going to make this thing work. There's multiple different entries for beating various defensive pressures that are in the point guards control. Lucas can pry this thing around and find cutters in multiple different ways. His skill set aligns well.

I agree, but then the NCAA has to change its rules for the LOI. Because the LOI rules plainly state that the LOI is a contract between the school & the player. It goes on to say, that a player should not choose a school because a player wants to play for a particular coach. According to the NCAA the granting of a LOI is up to the school.
Like I said, I agree with you.

The school had originally refused to let this kid out of his LOI because Howland recruited him. But Howland let him out after meeting with him.

Brooks' father is an assistant coach at MSU, but Brooks lives in Alabama with his mother. Appears there is parental strife at the center of this. A sad and thankfully unique situation.

Nonetheless, seems like we inch closer every year to the LOI being completely meaningless.

I think Bruninga is worth exploring = 6'7+, hit the 3, can dribble, looks to be a decent passer as well. Obviously the competition he has played against was weak but he could possibly be a Jarrod Uthoff in the making.

Apparently BU's 81% career winning percentage isn't good enough for some posters on this board.

BU knows what he is doing, and knows how to get teams into the tournament. Have some faith.

When they are serious about sending players here then we talk. He is trying to fill a roster right now. They are AAU coaches, if you got a kid then reach out to him.

I Think Uthoff is a stretch, but he looks much better than Finke.

I'm fine not kissing the rings of any coaches. Win and it won't matter.

Keep acting inferior and we will stay inferior

I lean this way as well. Groce kissed more than their rings for 4 years and where did it get him?

Win and they'll be kissing ours.

I saw him play in high school half dozen times, very lanky 6'8, averaged 20+pts & 10 rpg. His three point shot was his strong suit but was decent in all the other areas. I haven't seen Bruninga in person but from his highlight videos, the comparison between the two of them is pretty similar.

To be fair he racked up that winning percentage at a non P5. Everyone would be over the moon if he managed that here. He went 9-9 in the Big 12 with 2 future NBA players on his team. Cuonzo gets mocked on this board for only getting a 6 seed with multiple NBA guys. I haven't seen many posters object the hire but some, like myself, are hesitant to throw adulation and anoint the man a savior before he's successfully recruited a player or coached a game here like many posters on this board are doing.

Well, that's a pretty classy post considering the shade that some idiot Illini fans have thrown his way. I hope that his parents work through their disagreement for his sake, and if it works out for us, great.
