I've seen a few mentions of C.Moore being a chucker and inefficient. Which I tend to agree with in my limited viewings/research. How does that fit into B.Underwoods system? Is he a better fit then this Hardy kid? I'm going to disregard Smith for now as I don't feel real confident in that situation.

I thought we might have a shot at Mark Donnal/Michigan 5th year, but it appears he's down to Creighton, Clemson and Vanderbilt.

Speaking of Tyler, I'm just going to quickly slip this on here and admit to you all that I thought he'd rot on the bench at KY the day he committed. My mucho bad.

Congrats to @tulis3 on being named the @kia #NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month for the month of April.

People are saying the same about Mark Smith now. Thinking hes gonna be sitting on the bench just because they have other 4 and 5 star players. Mark would still play and play a lot.

I really hope we get him.

Nah, I think Mark Smith will get plenty of playing time at Kentucky. He's that good. Whatever happened to the chicago kid who went to Kentucky? Charles Matthews or something

Matthews was one-and-done at Kentucky. ;)

This is a pretty good read.

Weird: I was wondering what ever happened to Charles Matthews and found this article. Was ready to post it on ILLloyalty and long and behold IlliniFin86 beat me to it....very interesting article.

It's hard to compare Mark Smith with Charles Matthews but I see a lot of similarities on paper and talent wise. CM peaked before his Sr season in HS where MS developed throughout his Sr. season to earn Mr. Basketball.

Kentucky doesn't develop players. It doesn't have time. If you are not borderline NBA ready when you arrive on campus that program will chew you up and spit you out. If Mark doesn't distinguish himself his freshman year he becomes another Charles Matthews - rapidly disappearing and looking for a new home with more question marks than answers about his game.

Kentucky will always be recruiting over its players with loads of NBA-ready, one and done prodigies. Mark Smith needs to scour their roster over the last decade and objectively look at all of the NBA sure bets and promising next-level guards that find themselves suddenly lost in the shuffle at KU. They end up transferring out - praying for a successful rebirth AT THE RIGHT PROGRAM that will repair their game and hopefully get them back on track to fulfill their NBA dreams. There are players on those rosters who had promising freshman years statistically but became a complete afterthought by their sophomore year. It's like a Double A player being thrust into the Major Leagues on a championship team. You either make your mark or you are demoted. There isn't time to develop your game.

You have to be borderline NBA ready to play at Kentucky. I love Mark Smith's highlight videos but he is not a one-in-done. And, wow, what a gamble - to try latch on to a program in the last hour that will always recruit over you with top10 talent. Lots of similarities between Charles and Mark!!!!

Whatever Mark Smith decides, by all accounts, he seems like a great kid and will be a great player. Wishing him and his family nothing but the best in their exciting basketball journey.

Unless Mark Smith's freshman college year is as meteoric as his senior high school year, he is not a one-and-done. Probably two years at best. Kentucky is most certainly recruiting him as one of their continuity guys.

Fun fact: Orlando Antigua's HS coach in NYC was Gary DeCesare now the head coach at St. Rita.

Well that settles it. Michigan should stop recruiting shooting guards since they have one already... right? That's how this thing works from what I read

I saw a few unfortunate typos and writing errors there. "He picked the Kentucky over Illinois, Kansas, Michigan State and Marquette."
"the Kentucky" makes me :D

and "His plan didn't work and a new fleet of five-stars were on there way to Lexington."

The lack of editing in so many articles these days always shocks me.

Is Moore trying to get a waiver to play immediately? It seems the announcement was very specific to say this transfer was to be closer to his father rather than the coaching change.

If so, then the new waiver rules are pretty clear it's 100 mile radius, which would eliminate us and Missouri - unless it's a time to live situation which can over-ride everything.

Who was the player we had there the NCAA ruled against him, stating that Champaign is not only beyond 100 miles, but wouldn't be considered close to home? (Home being Chicagoland area)

Ahmad Starks, but there's no hardship waiver anymore. He'll have to sit out a year regardless of where he goes.

I find it pretty amazing and annoying I suppose that there has been zero word about the visit with Cameron Johnson. Anyone heard ANYTHING!?

Why would a new staff in the middle of a scramble drill for a highly sought after transfer want to tip their hand as to their position? Patience grasshopper. We'll find out in due time.

I think we're going to have to get used to this staff operating in stealth mode at least for this season.. They've got some ground to make up in the recruitment game. I also think we may be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the roster come next season. Take some deep breaths and come in off the ledge people. It's going to be all right.
