Peoria Illini

And we can call him Otis (for the elevator company) - with a new corporate sponsorship!
Back in the olden days, there was a local band called Otis and the Elevators. Played at Mabel's all the time. Great band!

One of my old professors was in that band. And let me tell ya, he would loooooooove this thread (he's basically the go-to anti-Chief, anti-DIA firebrand on the faculty).
Lead Singer? Jay something?
I remember Jim Bury was the lead guitarist. He was good.
Bass player never wore shoes, LOL.
Jay Rosenstein, yeah. Professor in the journalism department now.
Loved Mabel's. Modern Humans was a band I never missed back in the late 80s.
Same but I was a few years before you. The Last Gentlemen, The Poster Children, Big Twist and The Mellow Fellows, and lots of others I can no longer remember. Bad Hair-band covers, lots of reggae and a whole ton of power-pop groups.

Wow... crazy. I could see him being anti Chief... LOL
Found this online. Looks like some old archived sets from Mabel's back in the day. If anyone is interested.

Bad hair bands? Clockwork Orange? Lol!
Uncle John's Band came around at least once a semester. Always good shows.
Rofl... love this. I can't stop cracking upPlease tell me you don't actually add an extra syllable and pronounce Illini as Ill-lion-eye.
In the same vein as Tuscaloosa, a giant eye could be a pretty cool mascot if done right.
AWESOME! lol - tyvm for that link
that brings back good memories... who was that Grateful Dead coverband that always played Mabels?
I remember bouncing from Mabels (girlfriend there with roomie) and the little place upstairs on 6th and Green to listen to Flaming Lips with friends (in a cloud of dry ice - you could never see the band).
Great music there on Green Street from 86-90. Thanks again!
That would have been cool to see.
I'll see if I can find an old schedule for I think it was 1986 or 1987 and it could have been for March or April. Listed all the bands playing during the month. Definitely a blast from the past.
Looks like it was from July. Not sure of the year.

I don't think that's just a snowflake thing.Although the soldier idea seems realistic enough, I can't imagine the snowflakes on campus approving of a mascot that trivializes and glorifies war and death.
