How many players can you name that decomitted from their school because of a coaching change and the recomitted? Few and far between.

Didn't this just happen with one of the Indiana Recruits?

If Tilmon isn't waiting on Smith and potentially coming to Champaign, I don't know what he is waiting on. He knows the deal with CM and Porter and Mizzou, he knows Goodwin and SLU...why not go ahead and commit with one of them then? I think our chances are better than 1%. Maybe 2%. ;)

And of course we welcome him...he's a teenager making a huge decision

This is what's giving me hope. I'd still love to have Tilmon on the Illini, regardless of the drama. Why hasn't there been any other news or updates about him taking other visits (other than the completely logical reason that he is keeping it low key)?

I don't think IU ever actually granted their release did they? Didn't Miller keep em on the hook until he could change their minds?

Ya, I'd go with him keeping low key after having way too much drama around his recruitment to date. There are many other perfectly sensible reasons he hasn't announced anything or perhaps even decided anything yet. Maybe he's waiting to see how some other recruitments/roster developments shake out. Maybe he wants to take more unofficial visits or have more talks with coaches. Maybe he's trying to play schools off each other to negotiate a better situation for himself. There are a million reasons why he might not be jumping into deciding or announcing anything quickly, and probably few reasons for him to decide anything before he has to. If Smith comes, maybe we have a tiny chance but nothing indicates that he's even considering us at this point, and usually if there's anything out there at all it gets inflated and blown up to the point where we think we're legitimately in it.

Clifton Moore is a player that recommitted to Indiana recently. I think there is a good possibility that Tilmon could still be an Illini especially if his friend Mark Smith commits.

Both Clifton Moore and Al Durham requested releases and both re-committed to IU. It is common practice that schools ask recruits to meet with new coach before actually granting the release and even Tilmon met with Underwood.

It is much less common to re-commit after actually getting granted the NLI release, but I am sure it has happened.

I think we need to cool it on Tilmon. Every reputable report I've seen since he requested his release was that all Tilmon - Illini bridges have been burnt. Not saying it's impossible, but until I see someone I trust report that it's a possibility, I'm not getting my hopes up for a second.

Regarding Smith, it looks good if you focus on his twitter activity and other rumors, but I've seen this script before. The bottom line is that it's pretty common for kids to put out different signals before committing. Sometimes they end up being indicative of where the kid commits, other times it turns out the kid was just throwing out signals to keep everyone invested in their decision. I won't get my hopes up too much until he's signed.

No one is turning anything down. But the way JT handled his flip flopping was classless, and will probably take some a bit of time before they are showing the love he was getting a month ago.

His very first 15/10/2 game will take care of that! :thumb:

Agree with pretty much everything in this post.

So, If Smith commits he's been an Illini guy all the way. Just the type of player we want to get. And if he goes elsewhere, he is an immature kid looking for attention and can go on the list of kids who have played us to hype up his recruitment. Not the type of player we need. We need Illini guys.

if the bridges were burnt why would Walker keep talking to him, but there are a lot of little things out there that still should give people a little hope. DO I know for sure JT will be an Illini nope but I would say the chance is higher then 49%

I'm starting to feel like if we get Smith we get Tilmon. Still 50/50 if we get Smith or not though. I see the pros and cons of him going to either Illinois or MSU.

Seems like a lot of offers to ~6'5"" guys. Flying Illini type more than 05 team. If Tilmon comes back Illini nation goes nutso. Would certainly feel great about next year if he can land a serviceable big. A good season would do wonders for our rep and probably our recruiting.

Today we are throwing water on people in the thread, and not Kool-Aid.

(rightfully so)

I see the pros of MSU, heck Tom Izzo is the best coach in the game as far as I am concerned and from everything I hear he is an even better guy. A kid would have to be crazy to not see the value of that situation. That being said young Mr Smith loves the Illini and sees the opportunity to do something special. I am 100% buying into him coming to Chambana and I can see Tilmon possibly following. I think the Tilmon thing is 50/50 at best and that is likely optimistic.

Is there reputable information that Walker is still in contact with Tilmon? If so, I haven't seen it.
