Seems like a lot of offers to ~6'5"" guys. Flying Illini type more than 05 team. If Tilmon comes back Illini nation goes nutso. Would certainly feel great about next year if he can land a serviceable big. A good season would do wonders for our rep and probably our recruiting.

I been saying the same thing, BU talks a lot about the Flying Illini, and I truly believe that is what he is trying to build again

Is there reputable information that Walker is still in contact with Tilmon? If so, I haven't seen it.

Has there been any real info on Tilmon lately? It seems eerily quiet on that front.

Not in a while. Believe I remember news of Mizzou and Kansas having in-homes with him right after he got his release. Absolutely nothing sense.

who cares about Tilmon? why so much talk about a guy who has decommited from UI? I'm just hoping Smith commits to UI. Would be happy with whatever decision Smith makes and would wish him the best if he goes elsewhere. If Tilmon wants to come back to UI, good, if not, that's fine too.

What would everyone's reactions be if Tilmon re-re-committed in a joint announcement with Smith? I know JT's drama and rollercoaster recruitment have rubbed some people the wrong way, so from a PR standpoint for him, I think this would be a good play. Everyone couldn't help but be excited. I'd welcome him back.

Snider's transfer is likely to be announced at the same press conference

I see the pros of MSU, heck Tom Izzo is the best coach in the game as far as I am concerned and from everything I hear he is an even better guy. A kid would have to be crazy to not see the value of that situation. That being said young Mr Smith loves the Illini and sees the opportunity to do something special. I am 100% buying into him coming to Chambana and I can see Tilmon possibly following. I think the Tilmon thing is 50/50 at best and that is likely optimistic.

MSU is definitely a draw. However, they are recruiting him as a 2/combo. He will come off the bench behind some very good players. Could they be very good, yes. But the Final Four talk is always a crapshoot. Heck, MSU lost to Illinois this year and now they are Final Four bound? Maybe, but if that is what they are selling Smith, it is no sure thing.

At Illinois, he will be handed the keys to the program. He will run the point and it will be his team. He can be an Illini legend which will open a ton of doors after his basketball career.

As for the NBA, if he is good enough, he will get there if he goes to Illinois or MSU. This year's NBA all star game had players from Fresno State, Butler, San Diego State, Washington, Louisiana Tech, Davidson, Southern Cal, Washington State, Marquette and two from no college at all. You don't have to go to a blueblood to get to the NBA.

I have seen the following word used a few times in this thread and maybe some others describing some of the athletes BU is recruiting. "Bouncy". So there was the Flying Illini now we have the Bouncy Illini. OK, maybe not.

I have zero issue with him decommitting from Illinois.

I don't like the way he did it but he's 18 so whatever.

If he comes back- I'd be ecstatic because we need him bad.

He opted out of his LOI. Maybe you missed that. There are a number of reasons why somebody would do that, and wanting to go to the school he's opting out of is not one of them.

I saw it, but what's that got to do with Tilmon recommitting? I was asking how he knew to make such a definitive statement. Just his feeling or insider info. lol

Didn't Tilmon himself (when he asked for release), say that Illinois still wasn't out of the picture?

Sorry for getting snarky. Recruiting blues.

Yes, Tilmon stated that Illinois was in the picture. While this was likely a statement borne of politeness, it's impossible to distinguish such a sentiment from the genuine article... unless, of course, he does recommit.

Truth is, Tilmon had a real buzz for Mizzou surrounding him... then the Tigers got scared about losing him to Kansas. Since then, there hasn't been much that's bubbled to the surface. It is not unreasonable to assume that Tilmon is out of the picture for Illinois, given all that's happened.

Man I get annoyed with people speaking in absolutes on here. When it comes to recruiting, there are no absolutes. Does opting out of an LOI mean you're 100% not going to that school? No. I'm not saying he's coming here, I don't even think it's likely, but I'm sure as hell not going to say it's a 100% impossibility.

It is, of course, fair and accurate to say there are no absolutes in recruiting... with that said, if Tilmon does end up recommitting to Illinois, I would feel quite confident in stating that his was absolutely one of the strangest recruitments ever.

Your math, it does not check out

what math, I am saying right now we have a 95% chance we get Smith, and a 33% chance we get JT if we do get smith our chances go up to 75-80% we get JT

He's visited WKU. He's supposed to be visiting Mizzou today.

If that's true, a visit to WKU raises a bunch of red flags for me. Sorry but a school like WKU doesn't suddenly become a recruiting powerhouse without very good reason. And that reason would have to be more than Rick Stansbury.

No offense combes, but that is a customary pretty biased view on message boards. If Mark Smith goes to MSU he is automatically delegated as a backup, if he comes to Illinois, he is automatically given the keys to the program and goes to the NBA (... Trent and TJL don't even exist).

If Mark Smith goes to UI, we will automatically talk about how Smith and Trent could co-exist and drive synergies in the same lineup under Underwood's system (these synergies only occur in our system, not elsewhere).

If Mark Smith goes to MSU, we'll talk about how Trent would likely emerge as a better player to Mark Smith. :D

Really? Ask Indiana about that.
