MSU is definitely a draw. However, they are recruiting him as a 2/combo. He will come off the bench behind some very good players. Could they be very good, yes. But the Final Four talk is always a crapshoot. Heck, MSU lost to Illinois this year and now they are Final Four bound? Maybe, but if that is what they are selling Smith, it is no sure thing.
At Illinois, he will be handed the keys to the program. He will run the point and it will be his team. He can be an Illini legend which will open a ton of doors after his basketball career.
As for the NBA, if he is good enough, he will get there if he goes to Illinois or MSU. This year's NBA all star game had players from Fresno State, Butler, San Diego State, Washington, Louisiana Tech, Davidson, Southern Cal, Washington State, Marquette and two from no college at all. You don't have to go to a blueblood to get to the NBA.
