Judging from the schedule and how free agency went, we should probably get used to the Bears having a top-5 pick. They'll likely be doing it again next year. The only real drama will be if it's the same GM making the pick.
Holee crap! I did NOT see that coming.
I think trading up to get a qb is a huge mistake given all the holes on that team.
Prove me wrong.
This franchise is a joke.

...if Trubisky isn't a star....
...this is a complete disaster.
I hope they are really, really sure about this because if Trubisky isn't a star, this is a complete disaster.
Of course they aren't sure. The price to pay was high I must admit, but if this is the right guy who cares about 3rd and 4th round draft picks. I like the move and acknowledge that it could be a huge mistake. Get busy livin or get busy dyin. NFL football teams without an elite QB are dead in the water. I know Dilfer won a super bowl. I'd rather roll the dice on finding an elite QB that gives me a chance to win for the next decade. Good on ya Pace!
They gave up 3 draft picks to move up 1 spot.
He better be a whole Hell of a lot better than DeShaun Watson. They could have just kept the picks and wound up with Watson.
Or (very likely) kept the picks and wound up with Trubisky anyway.
I assume either Jacksonville or the Jets were going to trade into the slot if the Bears hadn't.
It is a QB desperate league. Trubisky then Mahomes. Bears have to get it right once every century right?

I'm starting to rationalize this a bit.
The Bears were going to draft a quarterback this draft that they thought would have a chance to be their starter. It could be that they thought Trubisky was the only one that had a solid chance to succeed. That's a reasonable opinion, shared by some experts.
Two other teams traded up to take quarterbacks. We can probably assume that the Bears fielded offers for their pick from teams that had qb needs. Thus they knew they wouldn't be able to trade down and get Trubisky AND they were going to have to trade up to guarantee they got their guy.
So IF their assessment of the QB class is correct, then they made the only move they could.
