Seager not on roster is huge break for us . Wow .

Happ just needs to wait his turn . BZ, Jay , & Schwarber all higher on Joes list for somewhat valid reasons .

Not going to panic. Cubs just need one of these first two and the first was going to be the least likely considering Kershaw and all the travel issues.

I bet they knock Hill around tonight.

Pedro “I’m the reason MLB will be going to a pitch clock” Baez being left off the roster is a blessing for baseball watchers everywhere.

I agree, there's no need to panic.

Nobody will have to struggle sitting through a Pedro Baez pitch sequence, but unfortunately the ears of baseball fans across the world are subjected to Ron Darling's commentary on TBS. My goodness he is hard to listen to.

this much I know

we have to start hitting and scoring runs, to the tune of 5 per game, because I don't think 3 or 4 of our often used relievers are going to all of a sudden find their groove and pitch like they should.

This whole post season
our starters have been awesome. solid A effort
our hitters have been way below average to lousy. solid D+
our relievers have been god awful F

we wont win any games scoring just 2 or 3 runs. we need 5.

thank God the game wasn't tied in the 9th or 8th and that play at the plate really mattered.

The rule is what the rule is, and it was called correctly on replay accordingly, but what does MLB want Contreras to do ?
set up for the catch leaving the plate unprotected ? really?

In 6 games played, the Cubs have faced Sherzer, Strasburg or Kershaw as the starting pitcher in 4 of those games. Those are 3 of the top 5 starters in baseball. The Cubs will score agains the other Dodgers starters. The Cubs don’t need to beat Kershaw to win this series.

trouble is Kershaw didn't beat us. Dodgers relievers did.

KB is in a funk . No getting around that
Baez too. Contreras not doing much better.
Three homers total for the Cubs in 6 games.
until we start getting 3-4 guys going 2 fer, were in trouble.

We just aren't going to win many games 2-1 or 3-2.

I'm not in panic mode, but our lack of hitting is simply not explained by the pitching of Kershaw , Strasburg or Scherzer.

Take game 5 out of the discussion, and we probably hit those three guys as well as we did the other pitchers we faced.

Cub hitting has been trash. Bad bullpen or not, they aren't getting anywhere if they continue to not hit like this. I don't know if any player is hitting over .200 this postseason.

I have to question Maddon's decision to take out Duensing, who was pitching well, for Lackey, who's never pitched on consecutive days and is known to give up home runs. It seems like every time Maddon makes a pitcher change mid-inning, bad things happen. Also, where the hell is our offense?

Now if MLB can just do something about Willson "I'm the reason MLB is going to limit catcher visits to the mound" Contreras the games will go much quicker :D

I hope Maddon gets Happ and Avila in there against Darvish. What he's got going on out there against right handers is not working right now.

Two left handers, Avila and LaStella (who admittedly has reverse splits for his career), and a switch hitter Happ (who is stronger batting from the left side) have a combined 4 ABs this post season while the Cubs are getting murdered by right handed pitchers.

Cub 2017 post-season averages: Bryant .179; Baez .000; Rizzo .154; Contreras .182; Schwarber .125; Heyward .133; Jay .222; Russell .208; Zobrist .211. Case closed. Baez is more of a sure out than the pitcher at this point. Pitchers got 2 of the 7 hits over the weekend. I think I would find a way to get LaStella 4 at bats in game 3. I bet he would get on at least twice.

Game 3:
1. Zobrist, 2B
2. Schwarber, LF
3. Bryant, 3B
4. Rizzo, 1B
5. Contreras, C
6. Jay, CF
7. Russell, SS
8. Heyward, RF
9. Hendricks, P

All I can take solace in during this series is gratitude that this performance follows a World Series championship season.

Could you imagine the agony of Cubs fans right now had they not made the comeback from a 3-1 series deficit against Cleveland? Yikes...

I think the most disappointing part of this is that it mirrors 2015. For a team that was hitting so well all of the 2nd half to go so cold... I know they are facing good pitching consistently, but they have looked completely lost this entire postseason.

That they have. This series shares so many similarities to the 2015 NLCS against the Mets.

But much like the 2015 playoffs, I'm able to cherish the fun memories of the NLDS. Game 5 this year against Washington was unbelievable.

And while the odds are heavily stacked against them, there is still the off-chance for a comeback. One game at a time!
