DePaul as of tonight is #126 KenPom. Marshall #194.

Should be more comfortable.

How long does it take for kenpoms reliability to improve? What sort of sample size of games?

The conventional wisdom is around the first of the year. I still find interesting things in there because the stats are soooo deep, so even though the sample size is small it is still somewhat useful to see trends developing and individual players breaking out (or breaking down).

At this time of year I like looking at the player stats, particularly the effective/efficiency breakdowns. It's probably no surprise that AJ has the highest ORating on the team and is doing the most with his minutes.

I'm not really a stat-head, but I get more into this stuff every year. It's worth the subscription IMO.

KenPom's preseason rankings aren't great because they don't do much to incorporate freshman. From KenPom himself, "The top 30 or so [recruits] have an impact on a team’s rating and beyond that the computer is mostly blind to newcomers."

Partner our heavy use of freshman with a new coach (which also isn't incorporated in the rankings, to my knowledge) and I think we're slightly underrated.

As far as when KenPom's rankings are truly reliable, it's a really tough question. For me, I take the opinion of other coaches and good basketball writers over KenPom early in the season. But by the end of the season (last 10 games or so) KenPom is great because it's immune to the bias of those coaches and writers.

Marshall has two like opponents thus far. They beat Tennessee Martin in triple overtime and then beat Southern 83-74.

Hope we can get another win. Was at the game last night and liked how we seemed to compete as a team on both ends of the court. Like watching our offense when it is ran correctly. When we would struggle I kept watching Underwood yell "Run Offense!"

Also, how soon after the games are the replays available on big ten plus. I won't be able to watch the game live but was hoping to watch it later in the evening.

It's probably not. I looked through the schedule up through the the 24th and didn't see it. I have looked through the schedule every once in a while. The schedule only goes about two weeks in advance. I did not see any Illinois BTN+ games replayed on BTN up through the 24th and in fact not many BTN+ replays of any teams. Maybe a half dozen?

Just checked now through Dec. 1 and no Illinois BTN+ replays. There were a few "To Be Announced" which I suppose could be slotted for games but doubtful. I don't think there were any BTN+ replays for any Big Ten teams on BTN

I guess there's something to be learned from our two common opponents so far, so I'll go with:

ILL 85
MAR 70

Illini easily move to 4-0, (headed to 6-0 in advance of our November 28th grudge match with Wake Forest, which I plan to see in person).

This might be the toughest game yet. According to Brad Sturdy on Twitter...Marshall presses for 40 minutes, has some good 3pt shooters, and they can score a lot of points. I feel like everytime a mid major pulls off an upset, it's a team like this who simply gets hot and doesn't miss.

And it will be really interesting if they really do press for 40 minutes. We'll see if the freshmen can take care of the ball. Going to really need Tejon to step up.

Are tickets still available for that one?

Sorry, how soon on the big10 plus website are the replays on? I figure I will log on around 7:30 pm and watch a replay. Will it show the score or kee it hidden?

It's usually a couple hours after the game ends before replays are available to watch
