My guess is the OSU loss at Iowa was not overcome by their squeaker today:

1. Clemson
2. OU
3. Georgia
4. Bama

i think tOSU has a legitimate argument over Alabama. Other than that freak game against Iowa, their only loss was to Oklahoma. They beat Penn State, Michigan State, Michigan and Wisconsin to close out their season. And they won their conference.

Alabama only played one really good team all year (Auburn) and they lost. Their best wins are LSU (17) Mississippi State (23) and Fresno State (25).

I think Ohio State will be selected as well.

But the winning-their-conference thing means nothing to me. The committee set a precedent last year by ignoring PSU and selecting Ohio State instead. So, they need to stick with that and pick the BEST team -- regardless of whether they won their conference.

The difficult thing for Alabama is that they really haven't looked like Alabama as of late. they are really beat up on the defensive side of the ball. That, more so than the conference champion thing, is going to cost them, IMO.

I'm just not that impressed with Ohio State as a top-4 team. The manner in which they lost to Iowa is a disqualifier, in my book. Oklahoma dominated them. They only beat PSU by 1 -- at home. They struggled with Michigan. And they struggled with a Wisconsin team that didn't play anybody all year.

When you look at the 4 big winners yesterday, Ohio State was the team that clearly didn't appear to belong with the other 3. Clemson is going to smoke them.

You want Bama in just based on name recognition. Their resume is sorely lacking good wins.

I agree Ohio State should go over Bama, but I doubt they committee will feel the same way. An Ohio State/Oklahoma rematch could be interesting, but I suspect we'll be seeing Georgia v Alabama in the first round.

I want us to the be the first B1G team from the West to make it to the playoff, so I'm thrilled Wisconsin couldn't pull it off last night :D. Hopefully we can make it happen in three years.

One time does not necessarily a precedent set.

So, given your arguments above, who do you select for #4?

Politically, will the committee leave out two of the five P5 conferences? Will they shut out the Big Ten in favor of two SEC teams?

May as well get rid of conference championships. Two years n a row it does not matter.

Why not Wisconsin if you don't like Osu's two losses?

1. Clemson vs Bama - Clemson looks strong
2. OSU vs UGA - UGA much better D, not bad O

I think Clemson takes it all

Sorry for consecutive posts, but is this an argument for expanded playoffs? Maybe six? Three plays six, four-five and one-two get a bye?

I think adding games makes it too many for college kids to play in a season

Playoffs would still be played over break though and only adds on more game for finalists. No other distractions and lots of time for rest/treatment. Games could even get scheduled with 8-9 day breaks.

Do you play those games on campus then? Would be really taxing on fan bases to travel for conference championships and possibly 3 playoff games.

If the goal is to pick the 4 best teams in the country, then Alabama definitely deserves it over Ohio State, I think.

It seems that the NCAA only agrees with you at the D1 level. The other levels have larger playoff fields and it seems like they play the same number of games as D1. UNF in Pensacola is in the D2 semifinals with a record of 10-3. They will play 14 games, with the potential for a 15th if they were to make the championship. Exactly the same as the D1 semifinalists. The FCS level championship game teams will play 15 games as well. I don't think that you have to add games to improve the current playoff system. Trimming some fat off of the schedule would be a start.

I disagree. It's not that it doesn't matter. But a team playing for -- and winning -- a conference championship doesn't mean the team is automatically better than a comparable non-champion.

The committee's job is to pick the 4 best teams in the country. Nowhere is it stated that a team must win their conference championship to be among the 4 best teams in the nation. There have been years in the recent past in which the SEC has had arguably the two best teams in the country. Remember when Alabama and LSU played for the title? It happens. Likewise, there could be a scenario in which the Big Ten has two of the best teams in the nation. Was it 2006 when both Ohio State and Michigan were in the top 3?

It just so happens that Alabama won the eye test over Ohio State. I happen to agree with that as well. Last year, I agreed that Ohio State won the eye test over Penn State.
