UNLV 89, Illinois 82 POSTGAME

#26
I will say, however, that Illinois commits more stupid fouls than any team I can remember in a long, long time. Heck, they commit more stupid plays than I can remember in a long, long time. Passes that never should be thrown, the inability to know your defensive assignment, not knowing your strengths and limitations. It is just mind-boggling how much this team can look so good and then make the poor, poor decisions it does. Our two freshmen were the best out there tonight. And, I want to know how poor the league that Mark Alstork came from for him to average 18 ppg last year. He does not look like a good basketball player. Ebo should be a redshirt, if we could afford it, and might need two years to really make any contribution. I am just really down after continuing to watch the same mistakes over these last several games.

They were all fouls. Some late calls, many ticky tack, but still fouls.

But it wasn’t like unlv wasn’t doing the exact same stuff. Frustrating.

+1. We foul....but....our opponents "probably" are fouling a little bit as well. If we stop some of our ticky-tack fouls, everything will even out.

Fans come to the games to support and watch their favorite players and teams in college and aren’t able too because everything’s a foul in college ball and it forces kids to sit and play tentative. The high school game is more physical now a days and it shouldn’t be that way.

The disappearance of Mark Alstork as a scorer is shocking, disappointing, and so devastating to this team. We needed him to be a steady 15-18 ppg guy and he's a 7 ppg game guy. Granted, his usage is way down, but he's been held to 5 points or fewer 5 of the last 10 games. Oddly enough, his two best scoring games since the opener against Southern have come against B10 teams. Maybe that's a portent for better things to come. :noidea:

This team is fun to watch. We'll get there.

Good to see Mark Smith have a good game.

This team might lose, but they don't die. I love the fight that this team and this coaching staff has each game (no matter the circumstances). I hope that this season ends up in a post-season appearance, but the future looks great if we can balance out the roster a bit more. :chief:

The core we have here, this thing can be special. Ayo better bring his lunch pail next year. These freshman don’t quit. We don’t have a signature win this season, but I have to imagine the big ten is on notice. You better bring it for 40, because once we figure out out the first 20 minutes, oh boy!

well I think your wrong about Spicy G, he should be getting about that many mins every game, and should of been from the start, Finke cant guard the water cooler so Greg has nothing to get better against in practice so to get better he needs to play some mins. Besides the fact Finke does nothing when things matter

Our freshmen are good.

Our bigs are non-existent.

Does Brandon McCoy have a brother we can recruit?

Nice to see Frazier & Smith step up. I was beginning to think neither one could hit from three. Since we were picked for twelfth in the BIG I was hopeful we would do much better & I believe we will. To just keep improving needs to be our goal. If we can keep the team together & add a couple pieces (AYO & a BIG) we could be very good in a year.

We are simply dreadful on defense. The number of fouls we commit is dumbfounding. Also we can't stop turning the ball over on offense so...

The defense seems to keep us in games when we aren't scoring. It seems that a lot of our fouls are committed on offense. If we could just cut out 5 foul calls a game, we would be much improved.

Best bet would be from Greg to practice against Fletch. Thats about as close as they can get to a big man right now

I think you need reminded how tough BU's system is offensively and defensively. He wants everything done fast, hard, and with a purpose. Most of the turnovers are guys playing too fast. Many of the defensive fouls are from guys flying all over the court. None of these guys have played this fast or this hard. The awesome thing is that they are playing the way BU wants them to play. They just need to get used to the speed and many of those silly fouls will and turnovers will disappear.

Kipper will average a double/double before his career is over.

I'm the founder of the Kipper Nichols Fan Club, but that seems a tad optimistic.

Has anyone in the last 30 years averaged a double-double (for Illinois)?
