Yes actually. Collins did that the other day in the presser about the disparity in the free throws with the NW game. Thats taking ownership and defending your team. Out of anything that i've seen from him this year that is the only thing I wish he would do differently thus far. Call the officiating what it is; which btw, has been a big part in at least 3 of our losses. He's making 3 mil. I'm sure a little fine wont hurt him

We have a PF that developed a rep for aggressive and borderline cheap play in his Frosh year and that rep hasn't gone away, right or wrong. Refs go in to every game knowing that, and like it or not, it affects they way they call fouls, period.
I can't find the article, but someone did a big in-depth piece a few years ago about supposed officiating bias against or for certain schools, with a lot of data, interviews with refs, and tape breakdown. What they found is that over time, every team is both the victim and beneficiary of bad or missed calls at a fairly even level. Discrepancies in fouls are going to be there even when refs don't miss calls because a) some teams are more aggressive and b) some teams have a lot of young players that are still working on body control.
Illinois happens to have both a & b. I'm not saying there weren't some fouls that should have been called against UNLV, but if the refs are impacting the game as visibly as people are saying they did, institutions like the FBI are going to sit up and take notice very quickly. The only significant reason to influence the outcome of a game is for gambling, not some vague conspiracy against the beloved.
The refs aren't our biggest problem, the way we come out of the locker room and start the game is our problem. BU doesn't need to address the refs, he needs to address the starting five.

Sure, but it's best addressed with our players and not the refs. However, I don't totally disagree with the "coach lose his mind on the refs" technical foul motivational tool! :thumb:
So we’re in here complaining about the amount of free throws other teams are shooting, and want our coach to implement a strategy that is guaranteed to give opposing teams at least 2 more free throws.
Calling them out for poor officiating in the presser will cost us 2 ft?
1. We play away.
2. The opponents like to drive and have McCoy.
3. We cannot defend the post and our best post defender got injured early in game.
4. We made tons of unnecessary fouls (especially some reach-ins on the opponents half).
5. Our center Finke has 0 ability in drawing any fouls.
6. We shoot way more 3 points.
7. Our leading guard (TJL) tries to reach-in almost any plays.

Just one tech, and yes last night and the Wake game were two examples where IMHO it might have served a purpose.
When coaches get T's for gong off on refs, ala Bobby Knight, more often than not, the calls begin to go their way and even out. Refs know more eyes are on them. And usually, that technical is somewhat planned or strategic, not just completely blowing off steam.
I have often said, only half jokingly, when an opposing coach gets T'd up you ( the other coach) should be prepared to get a T soon after, to turn the tide back your way.
Seriously, watch often the calls and momentum change after a coach gets a T.
I do have a serious question for anyone who is a ref at high school or above. Is there any extra paper work required if a technical is called in a game? IOW, any justification you must provide to officiating "office" about this incident?
I do not disagree with you on the bolded however, I will say if true, then those are people who have no business refereeing games. You cannot go into a game with perceived bias.
I am a perfect example. Not that I ever want to be a ref, but if I were, I have a preconceived bias against Duke and their flopping. Therefore, I would rarely if ever call that in their favor. That is not fair to Duke, so I should never ref a Duke game.
I do not get the impression that BU is all that unhappy with the way fouls are being called on his players. An occasional call, maybe, but overall I think he wants his players to be aggressive on both ends of the floor and he knows that aggressive players are going to receive more foul calls than passive players.
Black got ZERO fouls last night. Don't think this supposed "rep" of Black had anything to do with foul calls last night (or just about ever actually).
I watched the game. There was one hassle play from Jordan that he actually fouled the opponent but the ball went our way (inbound). Also the first 3 very quick fouls in early second half are just reckless - nothing to do with the refs.

What difference does it make? Do we really want a coach whining to the media like Collins does, or like Weber did? There's no empirical evidence that suggests it does any good.
