unless we have signed some bigs lately that I somehow missed on, i really don't think we're in any position to turn away a talented 6'9 guy, regardless of (perceived) character concerns.. but that's just me

Even when he was in high school I felt Bragg was way overrated. And that was before all this drama in his college career. I remember his senior year he was kind of having a ho hum season at about the exact same age as a less skilled and less athletic Malcolm Hill, was a sophomore at U or I and competing like a dog in the Big Ten. Bragg was significantly older than most of his competition and I never remember him stepping up and owning games like his ranking would have suggested he should. If the switch ever flips, he could be a monster basketball player. I hope for his sake it does. I'm guessing the style of Underwood is too intense for his liking though. But if he wants to come? I don't know. They say the third time's a charm!

There are plenty of reasons to pass on Bragg since his college career has been filled with off-court problems. But let's not make things up, he was an absolute stud in HS, averaged about 21ppg and 9 rpg on a very good team that was nationally ranked much of his HS season, was a 5* McD AA, and also dominated AAU camps including the NBA Top 100 camp playing against some of the top HS recruits.

Bragg had off the court issues at both Kansas and ASU, so I would pass. Honestly, I think his next stop is a desperate mid-major or the G League.

Of course we can. You build teams with talent and character. You establish a culture of hard work, discipline, teamwork, character, etc.

You can most certainly pass on someone who does not buy into those. Let Bragg get his third chance somewhere else.

I trust that BU wont make a panic move and try to get Bragg out of need and overlook the issues. IF BU digs in and feels Bragg would be a good fit, I trust the staff.

Circumstances Matter

The battery charge against Bragg gets dropped based on video, and the other person gets charged five days later.

The next month, on an unrelated matter, cops busted him for having a glass device.

Dumb, maybe. Let he without sin cast stones--hardly the sign of a bad human being, and not unlike the sort of things that befell our own #12.

I'm not saying that BU should go get him but the case against his character, predicated upon insinuation and a dismissed case, looks pretty thin.

Hopefully him and Adam Miller don't mind playing together. :thumb:

It could be a one-or-the-other scenario, but seeing DJ Steward play a couple times, I'm not convinced that he's a true PG. He's wired to score, whereas Miller is more of lead guard and knock-down shooter. Either would be great gets. Both would be gluttonous.

Could Bloomington big man be Illini's missing piece?

“I like Illinois. Illinois has done a good job of recruiting me. I like Coach Underwood when he contacts me, he’s a nice guy," Okoro said. "One of my friends is going there -- Ayo, we talk a lot on Snapchat; he’s a funny person, and he makes me laugh a lot. He really wants me to stay in the state and go to Illinois; he’s always telling me how good the fans are to him.”

EJ on Braggin' Rights:
"I like the way [Illinois] runs their offense. Leron played a big factor. And Mizzou played good defense, their shots just weren't falling. I like both schools a lot, but I don't like them more than any other school. I'm just taking my time.

When prompted to reply on how Illinois utilizes LB:
"They run the spread offense. They move it around and try to work through him. If he has a shot, Coach Underwood is gonna let him take it. He had what, 20 points that game?

When prompted to comment on what stands out about Mizzou:
"I really like the way Coach Cuonzo talks, he's a really good motivation speaker. I see Jeremiah. He has improved a lot." (and he has) "He's been working a lot harder. I know against Illinois he had a lot of rebounds, but they were tripling down on him so he couldn't get going. Mizzou's a good team."

He goes on about other schools, including KState. Liddell is keeping it close to the vest. We clearly should be concerned about Missouri in this tug-of-war.

Quick hits

Pass on C Bragg. He hasn't figured out the simple things in life, will continue to get in trouble. Self beat us out for C Alexander and Bragg, that didn't work for anybody.

Miller and Stewart would be gluttony? Yeah but the top 1980 teams were built like that across the big ten. This is what we will need to compete at the highest levels.

Okoro and Liddell are getting the party message. Nice to see Leron have career nights in front of them. Both kids seem like class acts.

When 10 of 11 return and you add Ayo, there is no panic in sight.

If Bragg comes here, I will throw in my support to all who swore we would sign 4 last fall.
