Not giving up on the season yet. Our schedule is favorable going forward. We could win several games in a row and be right back in it.

+1 Not thinking we’re likely for the NCAA tournament, but sure doesn’t help to give up on them as fans.

Just recruit. Recruit shooters and recruit athletes. That is the key to BU

I'm hopeful we are on the cusp of a Self like run with BU. Following Self, Weber got handed the keys to a 1 year Mercedes and ran with it.

From there we've been saddled with Weber recruits, Groce and now BU is being forced to try and run his system with a group of upperclassmen who just don't look like BIG caliber players.

The freshman, all 4 of them, wow are they going to turn this around in the next year or two!

We need to cut down the rotation on the whole. It's way too big and could very be the reason for the insane inconsistent stretches.

I'd bench Lucas all together and start from there. Alstork being the backup pg isn't ideal, but nothing is right now.

No energy at all on defense the second half. None! Absolutely horrendous defense the second half. Illinois, came out with all kinds of energy, but couldn't sustain it. Mich., reversed the ball got open 3's and made them. Announcers said they were on fire from 3. Well they were wide open! They broke the defense down in every way imaginable 2nd half. If you play pressure defense and don't sustain good teams are going to do exactly what Mich. did today. And i really dislike , Mich. Tired of losing to them.

i'd agree with the rotation part. We don't have enough skilled players where you can just pluck one out and insert another and everyone gels. Need to get consistancy

I am not worried about Mark Smith at all. He was focused almost exclusively on pitching a baseball less than two years ago. Now he's adjusting to high level D1 basketball and he's struggling with decision making when the ball is in his hands.

He's going to be just fine.

Main problem with Smith (not really his) is too many people on this board were hyping him up too much. There wasn't much of a chance he could live up to the hype. But being overhyped by many, causes some to be disappointed in his play as a freshman.

Young team, brutal opening schedule, and they seem fairly slow to actually learn what they're being taught sometimes. They play like dumb scared kids.

I like BU. I'm not sure he has enough to work with here. We still played pretty well in the first half.

I would roll TF, MS, Kipper, Black, and Ebo out to start the next game with DW and Alstork getting top bench minutes. AJ, Finke, and TJL need to earn it from now forward.

Agree except DW or Alstork one or the other should be in there for defense alone.

I turned the game on around the 16 minute mark in the second half. West coast livin' can be tough on midwest fandom

Can somebody tell me what was working in the 1st half? Because the portion of the game that I caught wasn't especially competitive.

Finke

If I'm Underwood and watch this film concentrating on Finke and Ebo, I'm considering starting Ebo or at the least giving Ebo a big chunk of Finke's minutes.

Smith needs to be driving with that big body. He should be shooting a ton of FTs.

No he shouldn't. He doesn't know how to drive without leading with his elbows. He should be seeing the bench right now. He was dreadful. Looks completely lost. Maybe one day he'll be okay. But right now he's a liability. Big time.

I agree. I would totally start Ebo. Much more athletic. He gives you something. Rebounding. Presence, shot blocking. Finke he gives you nothing. He is so unathletic.

Believe me, Underwoods thinking it. Ebo’s minutes have already gone up the last couple of games.

Today
Ebo: 16 minutes
Fink: 20 minutes

I would love to see you I starting 5 or at least substantial minutes with this group: Ebo, Black, Nichols, Williams and Frazier.

Problem coaches have with doing that is response.
Players like Funke and Alstork just sulk on the bench.

Let them sulk. Underwood wants players that will compete. He said it himself, minutes are earned; and i like that.

It’s all part of the culture change and i love it!

Yeah, I keep waiting to see which of our players starts barking and getting fiery when we are getting our arses handed to us. I feel like it will be Trent next year, but man I want to see someone get pissed when we are playing like crap. Other than BU.

+100 :illinois:

11 TO's from your starting guards will win absolutely nothing!!

Agreed. Smith really killed is this game with his turnovers. It seemed like all of them were costly. Two were when we had guys hopefully getting ready layups underneath and he threw it where they couldn't catch it. And then the two to start the second half.

I was pleased with Tejon this game, but I never remember any player missing the front end of so many one and ones, he had another this game. Biggest pet peeve in the game for me since it costs us two points instead of one.

One thing that I'm looking is Ebo. Wasn't sure if he was going to ever contribute, but with a summer of Fletch and some skill training, I think he could be a very valuable role player for us. Maybe similar to a Jack Ingram or Damir Krupalija level of impact on the team. Just keep practicing seeing screens, rebounding, defending and passing and take whatever' the defense gives you for scoring.

I'm as frustrated as the next guy. But many of us are acting like we are surprised this team is struggling in so many ways. The reality is that almost everything negative we are seeing is what we knew would be the case. Finke is what he is, a stretch 4 that is a good shooter, slow footed, and not particular tough or physical. Leron is a good player that should be a short range shooting 4 that occasionally posts up but instead is often used as a 5 or a post up 4. Lucas is still young and learning almost as much as the other freshman. He has talent but doesn't have a good jump shot and isn't able to compensate for that with elite athleticism or size. Alstork's offense is about the only thing I've felt has been surprising this year (because it has largely been nonexistent). AJ is a great shooter and is decent at rebounding for a guard but is too slow to attack the hoop. The freshman are freshman and offer a lot of good things but are always going to have a major adjustment to playing high D1 ball. Few freshman come right in and dominate and play at the level they need to to succeed at college ball. Kipper is also equally as youthful and needs time to figure it out. We have no true post player offensively or defensively and that can't be understated as to how big of an issue that is. This team has potential, yes, but I genuinely believe it will take another year or 2 for Underwood to right to this ship and most importantly produce consistency. We have to get a player like Liddell and Okoro soon in order to make this team more competent.

Thing I like about Nichols is that he gets beeches and still cheers his teammates on...

He definitely do. I seen him at Kam's putting up impressive numbers. And, I mean, if you swimmin in it, why not hook up your friends? It's not a BLT sandwich - you can't just put it in tupperware and save it for later.

It's like Nate Dogg said: "it ain't no fuuuun, if the homies cain't haaaayeeaaaaavvvvvveee none".
