Revenge for last year's game at Piscataway, please.

Need another win here. For the young players we need to string together some wins to show them that we have what it takes to compete in the big ten. Ending the season with 4-5 wins and a win or two in the BTT would help them gain some momentum heading into next year.

Well....if we win that game last year Groce is probably still our coach.

That would have been VERY bad....

Eh, time will tell. BU still has yet to prove that he's a better coach at Illinos than Groce. I want to say I think he will be, but being an Illini fan for the last several years has conditioned me to expect dissapointment.

loss

last year: illini have somehow found their way onto the positive side of the bubble with one catch, beat a bad rutgers team on the road. proceed to lay an egg.

tonight: illini have the ball, shooting 2 with 0.1 seconds to play, >99% to win the game. shooter intentionally misses the free throw, then attacks the board risking a foul, potentially giving the other team a chance to tie the game and send it to overtime.

i'm beyond jaded when it comes to illini sports.

please, for the sake of my own sanity, prove me wrong

He always has been a better coach than Groce, wherever he's been. Now, if you mean a better coach in terms of his success with the program, then I do agree to an extent, we've been dealing with mediocrity for too long. However, I really do think this time we've got it right.

I hope another BIG win on Tuesday will start us on a roll.

I respect your right to feel jaded, but it's pretty miserable to 1) highlight how jaded you are AFTER WE JUST BEAT INDIANA and 2) try to spread that misery to the rest of us.

Illinois 71, Rutgers 60

This is a better Rutgers team than we faced last year although they just got beat on their home court by a Nebby team that we nearly beat at their place. I know the transitive property doesn't really hold in college bball, but given that they'll be playing at our place again, I've got to believe that we put forth a better overall game than we did against Indiana, especially if we can figure out how to patch up the massive holes in our defense (at least a little bit).

:illinois: - 75
Rutgers - 69

We could get a nice win streak going here. Ohio State won't be nearly as much of a match-up issue as Michigan State. And if we beat them, who knows what will happen? We could at least play our way into the NIT.

Also, did anyone see that Myke Henry's playing for the Grizzlies? (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-spt-myke-henry-illinois-depaul-20180124-story.html) With Brandon Paul also finally making the NBA, maybe this is the year of Illini taking odd/difficult paths, but getting to where we wanted to be in the end.

I know, but you didn’t have to stand there in your Orange sweatshirt with CHIEF” emblazoned across the chest while your wife, also an Illini and also in Orange, waits in line for the restroom.

We’re going back this year for the game, so let’s take two from the R this year. Let’s do Rutgers a “favor”.

I know Sanders is a load in the backcourt. But does anyone know how good Rutgers is in the low post?

But I'd like to get back down there to see the new Hall and help support this team in person. Maybe 2/18 against Penn State. Can I hope to get a seat somewhere if I just show up game day?

May need the support as Penn State is leading Ohio State currently & has been most of the game.

The win streak is at 1, according to Wiki, which I still don't trust; I'll tell you why. Last time I was at Assembly Hall was 2005, Nov. 20, a Sunday, and Dee and Co. beat Texas-Pan American. The day before I watched Illinois lose to NW at Memorial Stadium. But Wiki says that game was Nov. 18, a Friday. No way.

My point: I don't have one.

Also, what's a clean, modest motel closeby? No flea-bags, please.

Thanks. Coming down from DeKalb.

My wife and I always stay at LaQuinta on the north side of town whenever we visit our daughter. It does allow pets, but we've never seen a flea. :)

9 more to go to get back on the bubble :D

I know the spirit of the post, but 9 in a row would make us a big story, and with wins at OSU and MSU, and a win over Purdue, we would be in.

Winning 8 of 9 would have us on the bubble.

Now back to reality, let's win this one, and take the rest one at a time.

I have watched a couple of segments of Rutgers games on BTN, and I think it will look again like many games this season: tall guys vs short guys.
