after watching a few more of their game highlights, its seems that griffin isn't particularly athletic nor fast.
He will be great compliment to Ayo and Jones.

Illinois has offered @FlaPrepHoops 2018 big Samba Kane and 2021 forward Moussa Diabate

I loved those great basketball schools of yore: St. John's and St. Bonaventure. Gee, I'm getting old..
With this wide of a net being cast out and only (1) scholly left, we would have to assume at least 1-2 will not be back (Lucas final interview reference?) right? If so we have 1-3 left open yet, so we can pursue the recent offers as well as Ramey and Jones still...
Finke and ? best guess....
That's right, when you finish the season and have huge, huge gaps, then you have to take chances, looking mainly for the diamonds in the rough, You have to.
That has been a staple of the Illinois program for quite a few consecutive years, desperately "needing" players to fill gaps in the spring, "hoping" for the surprise player. It is a clear indication that your recruiting has not been up to par. Late spring should be all about "opportunistic" additions rather than necessities.
Bruce Weber last 5 years at Illinois was 98-73 and 41-49 in conference, Bruce Weber at KSU has been 93-70 and 40-49 in conference. Very similar as far as winning games, actually slightly better at Illinois, but pretty much the same mediocre Bruce with a big drop in program status from his predecessors at UI and KSU.
Bruce Weber is Bruce Weber, mediocre at both places, far from a success at either place.

Bingo was his namo. Don’t sleep on a 5th year big possibly.

Watched the Iona Stepinac highlights. Griffin has a nice shot, very skinny, not sure about his other skills, not very athletic. If he can develop a lot physically and become a lights out college shooter, he’ll be a good pickup.

Just looked up Bryce Wills, the guy on Iona who dominated- he looks quite good, committed to Stanford, had offers from other great programs including Villanova, but surprisingly only a three star.

Hell yeah. That had me *rollin*.
I could picture whoever edited these highlights stoned AF and bein like "yo, ***** ima make this mixtape mad different. Yeah. Pass that blunt".
You all calling this a plan C with Griffin are on something. He’s one of seven up for NY Mr. Basketball, 18.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.8 blocks a game. On a first place team. He’s lights out from 3. This is a huge get for Illinois and a piece we’ve been sorely missing this year.
Not knocking you at all, only myself here, but - I remember a year ago thinking that Trent Frazier could become a solid contributor/great player only after he’s had a year or two to develop physically.
From now on, thanks to Frazier, I’m never going to count “very skinny” against a guard prospect. Still applies to bigs obviously.
I think that Matic transfers. And at least one more.
Finke and Matic would leave 3 schollies open and be able to give us a class of Ayo 5*, Griffin NR, Trice #1JC, Ramey 4-5*/Jones 4*, B1G to be names later (Kane)?
That would I believe most of our expectations for this class if not all of us. Are all legit chances, yes I think so...
I think "huge get" might be overstating it, but we desperately need shooters.
How similar is he to Aaron Jordan? Both are similar height, both lack plus athleticism, and both are outside shooting specialists. But AJ was a top-100 recruit, and look how long it took him to really contribute regularly.
Every situation is different, so I hope Griffin is ready to contribute early. But I don't think we should bank on that.
