Thanks for the insight Title. Can't blame Reed with regards to that. I just hope it's not Missouri.

It looks like East St. Louis has a couple of highly rated 2020 kids who already have offers from Virginia Tech? All the best for the upcoming year!

That is a very good point. I could see Oklahoma as another threat considering they have been hitting STL real hard lately.

It looks to me that there is ~56 scholarship players on the spring roster.

There will be 20 more incoming freshman plus Greene, which makes the 2018 roster ~77 scholarships players.

I count 8 seniors on the roster. Which 77-8 leaves 69 scholarship players for 2019 roster.

Add 2 for blue shirts (Griffin and Bush) and that is ~71 scholarships for 2019.

With a max of 85 scholarships, there will be ~14 + whatever spots open up due to attrition.

Hmm. Thanks.

I would rather see him end up at Oklahoma than Missouri since they are going to win a lot of these recruiting battles anyway. However, they really don't need to do this. They were able to get Perkins and Thompson last year and should have no problem landing the top St. Louis kids in the future. I would think Missouri is more desperate since they were shut out of St. Louis last year.

I noticed this tweet from Coach Reed a few weeks ago:

The NCAA allowing schools to have a 10th assistant makes these moves possible. At least we don't start playing Missouri again until 2026.

It's wayyyy early, but 247 has 3 of the top 10 ranked guards from the 2020 class coming from Illinois (St. Charles East, Maine South, Byron Township).

That is still good news to me. For our sustained success, I think we need to be adding solid lineman every year.

Can someone explain this one to me? Don't we have a ton of empty slots on the roster right now?

Just adding to what another poster wrote, Robert from illiniboard.com has the current number of available scholarships at 12.

There will be 9 Seniors on the roster this fall including the graduate transfers. This will put us at 84 scholarships, 1 under the limit if we don't add another blueshirt transfer.

That gets us to 10.

Bobby Walker and Jimmy Marchese were awarded scholarships on Christmas. It is assumed that these are just 1 year scholarships since both are redshirt Juniors.

This gets us to 12.

Then you can start looking at the redshirt Juniors who may not have their scholarships renewed. Unless they have breakout years, I wouldn't expect Justice Willams, Zeke Martin, Adam Solomon, or Caleb Reams to return. Trenard Davis could also move on although I'm not sure if he is a RS Junior since he did not qualify academically in 2015 and couldn't enroll until the Spring semester in 2016. Dre Brown could retire if he struggles to remain healthy so hopefully he has an injury free year.

This gets us to 15+ without taking into account normal attrition which is why I'm guessing the class will be around 18.

It should be noted that this class is capped at 22 since we have three blueshirts who count against the Class of 2019 (Griffin, Bush and Greene). If we add another blueshirt then the class is capped at 21.

ESL is loaded for 2020 and 2021.

Oh damn, I didn't know Griffin Moore had connections with him. Maybe that counters the current situation with Joseph T.

Yeah, they are both BOOM guys. The connection to Moore could be big here.

Make it two CB's (Ramos + Tom Loy).

Ok lets connect those magic dots. Corey tweets we just got a big package from Chicago...he is the TE coach.....a big package TE from Chi is visiting now.... Can we really start this recruiting class with
5 Star STL
4 Star TX
4 Star Chi
3 Star Central IL

Really could we ask for anything better as a start?

Great info. Dude K is also hanging 'em up after this season. So, that bumps it to 16+. My guess is a max of 20.

Reading some of the responses it sounds like this is pretty similar to Miznoz's efforts last year to no avail - some frustrated fans basically saying 'so what's new?'

He just visited Minnesota this weekend. Second time he's been there as far as I know. They are right there with Illinois from what I'm hearing.

Billingsley CBs raining down! He & his dad are on campus.

A commit from Billingsley would elevate Illinois recruiting class to a 247Composite ranking of #17 in the nation, just ahead of Michigan State and #3 in the Big Ten.

By that time, I am hoping we are contending for the B1G consistently....So we should dominate that dumpster

Yikes! Thanks for the update!

He did tweet this out, granted it was like 2 weeks ago. But I do not think he has made it down there since. Honestly from what I hear, Fleck puts a lot of pressure on kids to commit while on any type of visit. So its good he has gotten out of there twice without it. AND still planning on hitting up a Spring practice visit.
If we can get 2 more commitments from either Shammond/Billingsley/Bargy/JEllis/Washington I really think this class will be 'next level' special. I could see them rolling in at that point

Thanks for all of your info. It's finally fun to read the football recruiting board again
