With Finke's final 5 out, did we ever get the story on the reason behind his transfer? To me, he was the one guy whose departure was puzzling. All of the others seemed to have a somewhat logical story behind it. Lucas was looking at limited playing time next year. Mark Smith just needed a change of scenery apparently. Leron has his degree and is undersized to ever have a shot at the NBA, so why not start his overseas pro career.
But with our desperate need for bigs, why wasn't there more motivation on both sides for Finke to stick around. Him being recruited now by programs who are currently in similar or better positions than ours only seems to confirm that. Anyone know?
"Finke said several factors played into whittling his choices to a final five. He wants to get out of the Midwest — experience something new his final year of college — and find a team that can both compete for a conference title and make the NCAA tournament and continue to develop his game.
"I want to go to a place with a system I feel like I could succeed — a place that could develop me and help me get to the next level," Finke said. "I really tried to study the teams and the players that are coming back and how I kind of fit with them. Basically all five schools said I'm the piece that could help them."
