One thing that I find really annoying is that usually we say to trust the local guys because they are more likely to have inside information. But it seems like for most of our recruits, the local guys seem to be wrong more than the national recruiting "experts."

With Okoro, the national recruiting people seem to be completely discounting Illinois, saying that it's between Oregon and Purdue, while the local guys say we are still in it and are even confident in our chances.

Let's hope this is one time that the local guys actually know more.

Well that's something. Really hope it's true. If so I'm liking our chances more again.

I do hope if we don't get him that we go all in on a 5th year guy, because why not? Nothing to lose and potentially something to gain.

Worse thing happens, I agree that a grad transfer would be ideal. Our new guys need another to have support some experience would help. We do not need a project, we need a force to be reckoned with. Start beating the bushes !!;):illinois:

I'm just going to bring some honesty here there's no way a scholarship basketball player could succeed in Computer Science at UIUC (spoken as a current engineering student). If he attempted to do IT in the college of business though that would be feasible. By all accounts Okoro is a very smart kid but a 32 doesn't even get you accepted to CS. Just don't want people pulling the department rankings as a recruiting "edge" of other schools

How do you know what a person is or isn't capable of, based on 1 standardized test score?

Okay. Stuemke5 has given us good info. The info isn’t what we want to hear, but that’s not on him. Don’t blame the messengers. Okoro probably is going to Oregon. On to the next, and thanks for your info on this recruitment, Stuemke5. Maybe Okoro will have a change of heart, maybe we’ll get a visit.

There is smoke for Oregon and nothing for Illinois right now as it sits. Writing is on the wall for what comes next and has been for some time. We’ll be better next year as it stands now. Let’s be glad we got who we have coming and be glad that maybe down the road Stuemke5 has more Inside info for us.

This recruitment has been an odd combination of both circumstantially unique and totally obvious in outcome.

May be very true on one or neither aspects, I do hope I can chuckle heartily after the results come to light. One thing is very true, you can count the same thing from same ones most all the time. ;):illinois:

Serious question:

Who was the last basketball recruit Illinois beat Oregon for?

Recently, we've lost out on MiKyle McIntosh (ISU transfer), Abu Kigab, Dylan Ennis?, Devoe Joseph

I remember losing Michael Dunigan (sp?) and a wing player that Weber was recruiting that went there.

Was really excited about Okoro, would have been a great addition. Not sounding so promising from the way people have been talking on this board. I think he deleted that “watch out” tweet.

Lost Michael Humphrey and Michael Dunigan I believe in the same class.
