You sound like Mizzou fans last year. Pump the brakes.
I also think the Kool-Aid Kwotient is prematurely high because of a few tweets. I am unapologetically skeptical about anything good happening to Illinois sports until it actually happens.

But it's difficult to be unmoved by all of the TSJ smoke, that I'll admit.

Trademark this ASAP.

Unlike Mizzou, we would have a star at each position.

You do know Missouri has a 5 star and 2 four star prospects too, right? Mario McKinney will be a 4 star before the final rankings come out. I don't think people here realize or want to admit how much depth they will have, esp. for the 2019 season.

Who are we getting ready to put our attention for 2020+ after only possibly getting another wing in TS?

Before you worry about 2020 you have to figure out how many of the 2018 group that hasn't played yet and how many of the not even committed 2019 group is going pro.

I do but Tilmon and Porter should be gone after next year. The 2018 class is thin in frontcourt talent so they're better off either leaving after this season or waiting until the 2021 NBA draft since the 2019 class is loaded. Probably won't be the latter..

Their backcourt isnt that impressive even with McKinney.

You really think Tilmon will be gone after next year? I don't see that talent level.

I think 4* Torrence Watson and Dru Smith (shot 48% from 3 point range his sophomore year) might disagree. Also Martin and Cornell Mann said they have been very impressed so far with Xavier Pinson. Then of course they will have the unknown in Mark Smith, Javon Pickett, Santos, and Guess.

So I'm fairly new to this corner of the Illini recruiting obsession universe. Therefore, I don't know whom to trust in terms of columnists/reporters/publishers. So I apologize in advance. But I just read Piper's thoughts on the weekend, and he seemed pretty enthusiastic (in a measured way) about Oscar Tshiebwe. All along, that has seemed like a reach to me, but I'm not tied into any sources. You take your shot, and if it comes down to it and he goes elsewhere, I'm guessing Illinois may move to Jitoboh.

The Shanon optimism and Liddell confusion seem pretty spot-on, though. I wouldn't be shocked if Dennis Gates (former Whitney Young star for those who remember the Lonnie Holland/Cordell Henry/Quentin Richardson team) continued pursuing Shannon until the end, but it seems that in this case the Illini fanbase confidence is justified.

I think its common knowledge that both JP and JT are gone after this year.

Sounds like a lot of unknowns.....and would you expect Martin to say Pinson sucks?

I don't want this post to distract from recruiting updates from one of the most important recruiting weekends in a while but why do fans of other teams feel the need to try and "sell" their roster to opposing fanbases? I guess its in response to what our roster offers over theirs but let's be honest, Illinois message board, very unlikely Illinois fans are going to be like, "yeah you're right, EJ would be better off at Mizzou based upon Watson, Smith etc."

I don't think Tilmon will go pro after this year and will probably stay in college all 4 years. Regardless we were talking about guard depth not bigs.

As far as Pinson, Cornell Mann said in all of his time Pinson can handle the ball and pass it as good as anyone he has ever seen.

Sounds pretty impressive if you're a Mizzou homer. Don't forget to add that even Brad Underwood thinks Mark Smith is like Jason Kidd. :sneaky:

I'm a fan of both Universities so it's always a win win for me when a recruit is choosing 1 of the 2 schools. I do correct both fan bases when they get facts wrong though. Sorry.

I personally see nothing wrong with fans of other teams offering their view of their team's strengths or weaknesses in the context of basketball discussion, including recruiting. As along as the postings stay respectful and focus on content (which I think the posts above did), it only adds to the board. JMO.

Actually we were talking about how Illinois would have a top player at each position for the 2019-20 season. It's possible that Mizzou will be missing some key frontcourt players and has some unproven talent in the backcourt for that to be true. You could say the same about us to a certain extent but Frazier is a proven player and there's no doubt that Ayo will be a stud. Our backcourt is deeper regardless of how much you hype up Mizzou's MVC talent and borderline 3/4 star players.

Yes, but I think it is misleading to say that for our frontcourt solely on the premise of not what currently exists but rather on "IF ALL of you commit to us." There are many team that can say the same based on what happens if all their top recruits happen to commit to them.
