The recruits scrimmaged with the team. It was not an intense scrimmage. As usual, the teams went out of its way to feed the recruits. Ayo got the ball to Oscar a lot. Guys like Feliz and Williams barely looked at the basket. They were content to let the recruits get theirs.

Giorgi was very entertaining. He hit two long threes early and played to the crowd as he ran down court. Kane showed some skill but needs to get much stronger. Had a couple of nice moves and can actually catch the ball. :)

Tevian Jones is really good. Hits shots, drives, dunks. Ayo is a stud.

Anyone specific you want to know about.

I’m going over tomorrow to watch the team scrimmage. My guess is that it will more competitive than the “recruit run” today.

Yes! Please tell us more. Your takes on Tevian and Ayo are really exciting.

Not sure if already posted, but some basketball mags are out. Predictions for Illinois: Lindy's and Athlon's 13th, Sporting News 14th. Not much faith in the beloved.

We're projected to have the worst frontcourt in the conference and although we think we have a pretty good backcourt, it's young and mostly unproven. We'll do better than 13th but no unbiased writer will have us higher than 12th or 13th until they see us play a few games.

I agree and have said the same. He is one jumpshot away from being a really complete college player, and even in his jumpshot, he has great form. His form looks great, more old school form (Jordan) than new school (Curry).

Good analogy form wise to Jordan than Curry, pretty spot on actually...Kudo's

Re: Tevian: I watched him on a few full high school games (on video) and he looked like the complete package to me. He's got length, athletic, finishes with either hand, good jumpshot off the bounce and off the pass. I honestly don't get why he was only rated in the 100's. i hope his game translates to a successful freshman campaign.

Assuming you are talking about Tevian? If so, I agree. Of all of our recruits lately other than Tevian (even back to Groce era), I have only felt this way once about our incoming freshman before they played any games...and that was with Frazier. Lets hope TJ turns out even better!!!

Tevian seems to play 'downhill' more than anyone we've had for a while. He's got the speed, quickness and hops for a wing to really pull it off.

I went to Ubben this morning for the open practice. I think it started at 11:00 and I got there late (11:35). The recruits were not involved in the practice except at the end. At the end of practice, Coach Underwood gathered the team and the recruits in a huddle and talked a little about Kendall Gill and then introduced him. Kendall then talked about his experience going from an unheralded player to becoming an All-American, and also the final 4 visit. He talked about hard work and being part of a team. From practice, it looks like we really want to run and all of our guys can do it. Of course, De La Rosa and Higgs didn't participate (although they were there watching).

Agree with this. Also, to me, the guy that we keep omitting is Griffin - long, athletic, great shooter. He'll be pushing for minutes too.

Before the practice, DeLaRosa was shooting around and making quick start and stop moves. Have no idea of a time frame, but he is at least doing some basketball stuff. No knee brace either.

What are your impressions of the team/expectations after the scrimmage today?

Isn't quick start and stop movements the last thing to come back after a knee injury? I'm sure he wasn't going anywhere near full speed, but it's gotta be good to see that he is at least making those movements at any speed, right?

Anyone remember what DaMonte was doing this time a year ago?

Damonte's timeline was much different. He got injured early in the year. It was almost certain he would be ready for the first game barring major setbacks, it was just a matter of how strong and in shape he was.

With Adonis we would be lucky to have him before January. But I also think with it being his senior year he might be trying to rush through things to get on the court as quick as possible. Who knows.

Not really start stop but more cutting and side to side movements.
