Monster Purdue teams?!?? Ha ha. You won one B1G title in 2000 during that era and the last title before that was a three way tie in 1967. The last before that 1952. While the Illini have been awful of late we were in the RoseBowl in 2008 and won outright B1G titles in 2001 and 1984 and tied for one in 1990. I wouldn’t describe any of those Illini teams as ‘monster’. Good luck Kid!

Purdue had three top twenty teams between 1997 and 2003. Zero top five or even top ten teams. Not "monster" material in my book, either. Maybe he means monster as in Sesame Street's lovable, furry Grover is a monster. They weren't even Cookie Monster monster teams.

You must not remember the late 90s, 03 .. I mean did hazell or hope even approach a losing record v you? If you don’t think we will be good next year, that’s as dumb as some Purdue fans thinking we’d be great this year OR anyone who thinks that Illinois is not greatly improved.

I have not given a moment's thought to how good Purdue will be next year since I could not care less at this point, but I agree with you that any Purdue fans who thought you would be great this year are good examples of delusional Purdue fans.

I did a bit of research and found the "monster" teams you referenced by final AP poll: 1998-24th, 1999-25th, 2000-13th, and 2003-18th. So these are monster teams by Purdue standards? Wow.

Anyone else think the Purdue poster is actually giving some good information and realistic predictions? Why are people picking a fight with the guy?

Could be the fact that he went to another team's board and treated it like a forgone conclusion that his team would beat the message board's team? If nothing else, it's obnoxious.

When I read this post it brings me back to Brees beating you guys in Ross ade and two Illini fans yelling “you suck! Wooo!!” To a bunch of perplexed Purdue people as they ran out lol

I remember when Dustin Ward led the Illini over the vaunted Purdue Steam rollers. I yelled to Purdue fans as we left Memorial stadium; "Don't worry, you have the best 2-5 team in the country." Purdon't has never been great.

I think Lovie said it best in his presser today. "our d needs to get better to the man" to beat Purdue. Im excited for this game, We're gonna have to have our best game of the season to win. But im optimistic, huge step forward beating Rutgers last week.

This season is reminding me a bit of 2006. We only won 2 games that year but were competitive in every game except ironically Rutgers. We led the big 10 in rushing behind Juice, Pierre Thomas and budding superstar Mendenhall. We have that type of 3 headed monster this year and a similarly young but promising O-Line and Defense.

Not sure how many more games we will win this year, but I think we are seeing some similar signs to 2006. While it would be nice to sneak 6 wins this year (I think it is possible) the bigger picture is next year. We should have an absolutely loaded run game with experience everywhere on D. Williams in whatever role he takes will only make this Offense more dangerous

So we have a big game coming up and all we're talking about is Purdue. Enough said.

I'm glad we made the changes we made to the Secondary this past week. They will need that experience against a very good Purdue passing attack. I thought Sydney Brown looked like a future star. He was flying all over the field and making big hits. I think Hobbs' return is huge, but I'd sure like to get Williams back in rotation.

I think this game is pretty easy to assess. If we get pressure from our front 4 and disrupt Purdue we have a chance. If it is a repeat of what we've seen to date I predict Purdue 38 Illinois 21

The most likely scenario is Purdue scores some points. We win if we run like we did against Rutgers and get some turnovers in our bend but don’t break D.

Will have to run it well and run it often. Win the TOP by a decent margin (33/27,34/26) Get a couple of TO's. Move the chains and keep the the Purdue O off the field.
Get a big play on ST and avoid any critical mistakes.

They can hang 40 on us easily if we aren't careful and I don't think our O can get that high.

I was at the 2001 game when both teams were ranked. My brother went there for a couple of years before he could get admitted into Illinois and transfer to the better Engineering school.

The only thing more underwhelming than Purdue's performance was how little the Purdue fans around us seemed to care. Some of them started joking about how they should start rooting for Illinois after Purdue blew a 10-0 lead. They laughed along with us as Illinois won 38-13. The weather was nice for November and a good time was had by all. Good memories.

What's amazing is that an opposing team's fan is actually taking the time to troll us. #progress

Bolded gets POTW, imo. Send that troll back under his bridge on Saturday! :)

I was barely 16 years old during those highlights, and while I was a fan, I wasn't invested like the graduate I am now. Man...I could watch those highlights all day.

To 2018...I don't know. One more win would be mildly encouraging. Two more wins would be quite encouraging. Three more wins would be mind-blowing. Zero more wins would be suffocating. To 13 October 2018? I'd like to tell myself that I can settle for the eye test. If we look competitive, I'll be at least mildly encouraged. Losses still bum me out.

But what of the most important metric...uniforms?!?!? I've said on these boards in the past that I don't really understand the fan care/angst/excitement over uniforms. But I do love the grey ghosts once per year. Not because they're super cool or anything, but because we do them once per year and they pay tribute to a dominance we'd all like to see again. Just once per year...otherwise, give me orange and blue. Everywhere all over, give me orange and blue.

Oskee Wow Wow!

I was at that Rutgers game. We got 7 first downs in a 33-0 loss and am pretty sure that we never crossed midfield. This past Saturday was much sweeter.

Their QB was killed on that interception.

Purdue allows 162 rushing yards per game. They did shut down Boston College but then Nebraska ran for 256 on them.

gotta run the ball well, keep their offense off the field. Hopefully there is a good crowd for Homecoming. Beat Purdue!

Well yeah, it’s not a national championship program. Relative to our standing (and Illinois whom Purdue is 12-5 against since tiller was hired/I began as a Purdue student), those are really good years. Seems kind of odd to have this arrogance against a program that is considered better (10 point favorites at your place), has a better outlook (no one thinks lovie, even improved is anywhere near Brohm as a coach - AND at 2-3 other programs in the big ten can save the delusions that LSU wants to swoop in and steal Brohm - AND Louisville is already on the hook for 46 million in buyouts to their AD and pitino and would owe Bobby P. 14 million in a buyout if fired now, so that ain’t happening either), and has dominated you in the last 20 years (to be fair, down 1 win overall - too bad red grange won’t be out there).

I showed a healthy fear of what your team can do, but you can save this “well mean we ARE Illinois after all, and you’re just purdue, so we have to be better, right??”

You will only win if our guys come out looking forward to osu, show no progress against the zone read and blough gets blindsided staying in the pocket AND leaves the pocket to early all day. If those things happen 34-27 Illini.

Just better than you in my time as a Purdue fan. It just seems odd to say “Purdue has never been great” when I’d have to look, but I’m pretty sure Darrell Hazell got all three of his wins against you lol.

Great is relative. Take Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue and Indiana. To me, coming from where ALL OF us are coming from in the last couple decades... 8-4 and a Bowl is a great year until you’ve done That for a while. You look at what Brohm has done with very little talent last year and the talent he’s got redshirting and has coming in next year, and it can be that kind of season, maybe better.

Great relative to Ohio State? None of the four programs are close to dreaming of that yet.
