Still think AG can be one of those guys.
If he is a "shooter" he absolutely has to stop missing Wide open 3's.
Still think AG can be one of those guys.
I honestly wonder at this point - what is the difference between us and a middling B1G team, and a team competing for a B1G title? Not even being snarky for once. I really want to know how far off we are...
Just looked it up because I didn't believe it. You are correct sir.Well we have one top 100 now, that's certainly a start.

Just curious, what do you think needs to change about the team's culture?Culture
Experience and talent
Juniors giving less than 100% effort and poor leadership.Just curious, what do you think needs to change about the team's culture?
Piggy back of this a little bit....I think the culture is fine the kids are bought in and fight every day....I do think however we lack a consistent leader, a guy who everyone can go to at any given moment and who can also rally the troops so to speak.I think a big problem with this team is mental weakness which leads to zero leadership on the floor. Giorgi is the closes we have to a leader, and very well be our best player, who would of thought that at the beginning of the year
I am disappointed Trent hasn't taking this rolePiggy back of this a little bit....I think the culture is fine the kids are bought in and fight every day....I do think however we lack a consistent leader, a guy who everyone can go to at any given moment and who can also rally the troops so to speak.
I bet BU is as well.I am disappointed Trent hasn't taking this role
I can't speak for Mr. Gritty, but I think he's also thinking it's pointing up, correct me if wrong.Just curious, what do you think needs to change about the team's culture?
I imagine when we have 7 or 8 Top 100 players on the roster we will be competitive again.
I am disappointed Trent hasn't taking this role
Maybe I see TF differently than most of you. I didn’t expect this huge leap. For a 6’1 freshman that was/is purely left handed and is not the most explosive 6’1 guard he played to his potential as a freshman. I am sure he put a lot of pressure on himself to come in this year and lead us to some upsets and have a bunch of 30pt lights out performances. That hasn’t happened, Ayo and Giorgi have stolen the limelight for the most part and he has lost his confidence in his shot. It is much harder than any of us could imagine to be a 19 year old sophomore leading a losing team of other 18 and 19 year old freshman and sophomores. Wisconsin’s coach said this much about Giorgi. He is 20 years old so he isn’t your typical freshman. He is more mature and you see this mentally from him on the court and the way he talks in interviews. Talent influx and another year for these young guys will make it easier for Trent and Ayo to lead. Right now Trent is just trying to not be the reason we lose. I feel for the kid honestly.
Kipper has moved south in all statistical categories this year. It would be great if he just took leadership in his own head.I bet BU is as well.
Kipper needed to take the lead on this team and has not. The lack of" on floor" leadership is one of the big differences in where Illinois is and where we want them to be in the standings.
I do think Ayo takes the leadership role next year. With a legit 4 and 5 next year it will open up the outside game to help cure our shooting deficiencies.
Well we hope

Some Flashback Friday on old recruits. Watched Nick Rako last night in the USCvZona game. I had completely forgotten about him. He would look great on this team right now. Oh well...
If the Illini could hit some shots and 3's the whole season would turn. Trent used to be the guy you thought when it left his hands you felt it would go in. I don't know if conditioning is messing with shooting, ...but something is.Agreed. Trent is definitely struggling right now. The bad part is he obviously didn't forget how to shoot all of a sudden. It is all mental he just needs to find a way to break out of it.
I’ve wondered, and it’s been discussed here, if the intense focus on strength training is a little misplaced or too much of a focus. Definitely debatable. When is the last time we were upper half of B10 in shooting %?If the Illini could hit some shots and 3's the whole season would turn. This is my thought too. I have no expertise in the field of nutrition or fitness, but I know jump shots and free throws suffer when legs tire. I don’t have the solution but I think it may be part of the problem. Not blaming anyone but all the Fletch love is laughable to me. We aren’t a body building team. We need athletes that have the endurance required to play basketball at a high level for 2 halves. Nutrition and training may play a part....If the Illini could hit some shots and 3's the whole season would turn. Trent used to be the guy you thought when it left his hands you felt it would go in.
