B1G Next Year

#1
Being in the home stretch of this year...who/what can we expect the B1G to look like next year? I believe it bodes well for us ILLINI!

MSU - Will be back and tough as always...Top 25 team next year pre-season.
Ohio State - Will be stronger than this year.
Indiana - Existing squad after Langford (gone) will be worst, Morgan leaves too...recruiting?
Wisconsin- Top 25 will be stronger imo, Reuvers along with guad domination, they should be good.
Minnesota - Will drop off drastically
Maryland - Will be Top 25 pre-season if no big's leave for draft.
Northwestern - Will be really bad imo, young frontcourt 2 best players gone from subpar this year.
Rutgers - Will be far and away better than this year....that said that may only be 5-6 wins in conf.
Iowa - Very strong once again...they will be Top 25 pre-season as well, especially if Cook stays.
Michigan - Top 10 team pre-season, will win title probably.
Nebraska - I think may actually be better without Palmer and Watson long term, still under achieving
Purdue- Will be very good even without Edwards.
Penn St.- May have to transfer to another conference to get any wins next year...

Illinois - With our core team playing and staying together and recruits helping out....I really think we jump back to top Tier in conference with the others for most part being down next year. We will have 5 teams ranked pre-season imo, other than that and depending on schedule, I could see us getting to 10 wins next year, maybe more. 8 wins vs the "down" teams listed and 1-3 shockers against maybe the upper echelon teams listed.

The top of the conference is going to be crazy good next year, but it probably won't be as deep. The room will be there for us to make a big jump.

Losing Happ is a big loss for Wisc. Not sure how they'd be stronger. Their guards are ok - but I don't see domination.

Indiana has signed at least two good players...Franklin out of Indy Cathedral and Jackson-Davis out of Center Grove. They are in on Keion Brooks La Luminiere (sp?). Both Davis and Brooks are top 50. Not completely out of question Romeo comes back but very unlikely. He has been good this year but not jaw dropping good. Has not shot it well from outside. Would think Indiana would be middle to upper middle in BT next year.

It will be interesting to compare answers before and after the MSU game.

Happ should have turned pro already, the team plays to his strengths now as it should, the B1G is becoming a guard heavy dominated league, and Wisky is following suit.

Look at each team, their soon to be or already stars, perimeter players and good ones, Wisky will have their share of good guards next year and beyond. I like Happ and wished we would have gotten him honestly, but he can hurt them as he did when we played them. Watch the guards jump dramatically in scoring and assists next year for Wisky, is all I am saying, if it happens they will be better/stronger as a team.

They'll certainly jump as they won't have Happ's 18+ ppg but this is the very first year we've stopped him and that was because of Giorgi and AJ and some Kipper. I just think they'll be more challenged outside without Happ's inside game threat (and frequent doubling) - they certainly don't look as good as the Wisc guards of a few years back - but I guess time will tell.

I've seen Isaiah Roby in the first round in some mock drafts. If he does go the huskers will not be good next year. They will be losing 4 starters and their top 4 scorers.

There are some rumors that Tim Miles might be gone after this year. Not sure about Pat Chambers. Seems to have built some false hope at Penn St but this year was supposed to be their year.

Would hate to see that in regards to Miles. I really do like him and think he is a good coach and I don't see Nebraska being able to land some high profile coach that will be better than him.

We lose Jordan and De La Rosa. I see a big jump for the Illini!!!!!!

I think Cook will be gone at Iowa. Basically said last year he hates being at school and really wants to turn pro. I haven't seen enough of him this year to see how he has improved, but it is my guess he is ready to go make money.

Agree with both. Thought I said something similar yesterday, but think I probably hit the wrong button. Anyway, two teams with new coaches would never be odd and these two seem to be the shakiest right now.

What is clear is that Illinois is getting better, more experienced and more capable of playing the BU style. I like our future.

I think they may have some probes out there looking to see what could happen for them at Nebby if Miles is gone, end of day with defections/graduations, he stays imo...Chambers on the other hand is sitting duck, he is gone after the shambles of this year for them. They have some players, but bad for him this year the B1G is stacked and they simply cannot compete. Far worse than we are ILLINI faithful.

What I’m most excited about is that if we finish the season strong and the experts that have been talking about Illinois as returning one of the better starting lineups in the BIG is true then we may just see a # next to our name, or at least just receiving votes. It would be nice for once going in to the season with some other people besides Loyalty posters hyping up the Illini’s season.

I don’t think in any way that we will compete for the Big Ten title next year but I expect to have an upper half finish and for the team to be the team that everyone hates to play!

I think if we can expect to finish in the top half and we are the team that everyone hates to play, then there is no reason we shouldn't be able to compete for the Big Ten title

I'm already chomping at the bit for the Braggin' Rights Game next year. I'd be satisfied with a win...but I really want total domination and utter destruction for Miznoz and Clownzo.

This is wider scope than just the big ten, but are we planning on having an equally tough schedule next year? Would we want to compete for toughest schedule in the nation? I'm personally all for more marquee matchups as a fan. What's the strategy for getting the best seed in the tournament? It seems that # of wins is what could hurt us if we end up winning our way onto the bubble (next to no chance of happening).

I am personally hoping for a 5 seed in the NCAA and a top 4 finish in the Big Ten next year. Last year's 5 seeds were Kentucky, Clemson, Ohio State, and West Virginia. I looked at their team sheets. We are going to end the year with 2 Q4 games total. These other teams ended with 4-7. Does it pay to play more cupcakes?
