Talked to someone in the offices and they said “humble beast” might not be a take right now...

Some 247 class calculator fun...

Step 1: Add Mookie Cooper, class rockets up to #26
Step 2: Add Kevo Wesley, class is now #24
Step 3: Add Jalen St. John, class jumps again to #15

How great would it be if Mookie plus one of the other two were the two remaining mystery commits? I think it is more likely to be one of the two USC grad transfers plus a class of 2020 recruit, but man would #IllGang2020 #20mILL be taking off if it went down this way.

Sidenote/Loyalty After Dark conspiracy theory: Mookie Cooper, Mr. "You Heard of 5?" commits on 5/5/2019 at 5pm.

My guess is that it would be the same reason Michigan parted ways with him.
Didn’t he miss a few games last year, and then decommitted (whether him or mich drove that)? He has visited ILL multiple times afterwards so staff did their homework. Maybe likes LSU more right now? Reallocate recruiting resources? That’s fine if staff feels it’s best.

Antonio Johnson could (should?) be a monster safety and will play early and often. His table is ready.

I'd definitely take his WR teammate, if it helps w/Johnson. Pretty sure there're some prime ESL underclassmen we have our eyes on.

Antonio is quickly becoming my favorite target. I don't know if we've ever had a Free Safety like him. I think he ends up in the Top 100 in the composite rankings when all is said and done. Honestly didn't think we'd have a shot at him since he now has Georgia and LSU offers but keep getting him on campus and push for Powell as well.

Tyler Macon is my favorite 2021 target and I think he was on campus this weekend as well.

As far as Denver goes, if he is no longer an option then who else are we targeting at DT? Seems like a need since we lose three interior DL after this year?

Kevon Billingsley does not seem interested. Justin Jefferson was on campus this weekend but appears to be a bit undersized. Brock Griffin is an interesting target but doesn't appear to have any D1 interest at the moment. We may have to wait for other prospects to emerge during the Spring evaluation period or when we have camps in June. We'll probably also have to start targeting guys who are outside of the Midwest.

This is kind of why I did not want to see Verdis Brown moved since quality HS DTs are so hard to find. However, the move to the other side of the ball appears to have been requested by Verdis since he didn't feel like he was developing quickly enough as a DT.

Other than the reasons myself plus others have mentioned about A Johnson, I am very interested to see if C Pat/Lovie will be able to snag a NON Trinity St. Louis top prospect. Not that Corey is a bad recruiter, I think he is probably great with the players/prospects, but eventually all of his Trinity guys are going to be cycled out. Then what is left is a talented program run by a Missouri alum that Corey used to be a head coach at.

Wasn't he the lead recruiter for Randolph and Okpala? Both of those were massive recruiting wins for Illinois. I know Clark was a huge factor in those recruitments as well but I thought Cory did most of the leg work. Getting a kid out of Ladue Watkins is pretty amazing. Also we picked up Plohr from CBC in the last class and I'm sure Cory was a huge factor in landing him since he used to coach at CBC.

I hope we start adding guys from ESL, LN and Cardinal Ritter. Just so much talent at all of those schools and Cory appears to very much liked by all of those programs.

As far as Trinity goes, Coach Shannon just seems to be an advocate for his players and doesn't appear to be pushing them anywhere. He was on the staff while Cory was the Head Coach there so they are obviously on good terms. I think the question is how much talent will be left after the Class of 2020 is gone. I know they have one really good Class of 2021 WR but don't know much else about them beyond that.

We just got 2 CBs for Denver Warren.

Allen Trieu was just on the Jeremy Werner Show and said that Illinois was the leader for Denver. We'll see what happens.
