Trubisky only started one year at a basketball school and the Bears traded up to get him.
Yeah, because he was wildly successful in his first opportunity for playing time.
Make no mistake, Peters is here because he flopped at Michigan. He's got some tools and the frame to make NFL scouts take notice, but he's going to have to have a monster, monster season to be in NFL consideration, especially considering we're gonna be a pretty run-focused, non-pro style offense.
Jacoby Brissett managed something a bit similar when he failed at Florida as a big time recruit and then succeeded at NC State, ending up in the 3rd round. It's not impossible. But it's not likely either, and keep in mind that Brissett showed two seasons of solid productivity at NC State before the NFL came calling.
Jeff Driskel too, now that I'm researching it. He was the best QB in his recruiting class, was awful for Florida for four years, and then grad transferred to Louisiana Tech and put up video game numbers, 4,000 yards, 62% completion, and ended up in the 6th round and actually started some games for the Bengals last year.
If Peters throws for 4,000 yards, he will have NFL interest and Illinois is going to have a really good season. I won't hold my breath for that outcome though.
