Are the orange sleeve stripes an accurate rendering of the uniforms of that era? I've always seen pictures of plain blue sleeves.

And the sleeves were plain blue when we wore the throwbacks too:

Now, the road whites had sleeve striping....

Color me perplexed.

I noticed that too. No stripes on orange pants then either. White pants only. Great statue though.

I drove by just after the ceremony and saw the live Butkus with the bronze one in the background. Butkus is a big fellow but that statue is mammoth. It is a fitting tribute to a great linebacker. It really looks great.

I think Dick broke the mold.

On the plaque below the statue, I think they should have just kept it simple with this great quote I just heard in the Butkus highlight video someone posted in this thread...

Dick Butkus – He was Moby Dick in a goldfish bowl.

Dick Butkus was a man among boys. There was nothing "phony" about him, and there isn't today. If you think you were going to get a glosse retorical presenation with platitudes, forget.. He is who he is. A great football player who gave the university everything he had every game. I was at the university when he played, and we always said, there never was a running back who fell forward on a Dick Butkus tackle. He is "Southside Chicago and will always be,and proud of it.

That press conference was terrific. It's rare to see someone of his fame be so humble, but straightforward without sounding cranky. I genuinely could listen to him talk all day. I wish there was a way that he'd agree to be around campus a couple times a year. He is awesome.

One of the all-time greats. I hope there is a good turnout for the dedication. :illinois::ms::illinois:

(Caution: Contains violent hits) ;)

A fine cameo in there by Dick's fellow Illini and Bears great and paradigmatic salt of the earth Chicago guy Ed O'Bradovich. I miss the days of he and Doug Buffone doing the postgame call-in show for the Bears.
