Was hoping Tevian could play the 4 in some matchups. Now have to depend on Kipper. BU saying good things about him but could be coaches speak.

Any word on the secret scrimmage? Or is the first rule of secret scrimmages not to talk about secret scrimmages?

Kipper will get some minutes at the 4. The door is wide open for BBV to grab minutes too. Would be great if he's up to the task and becomes the primary backup to Giorgi.

Agreed, though I'd be more comfortable with this if BBV hadn't sat out most of the preseason. I'm not curbing my expectations of him per se, but we might have to delay them.

Well, this puts us down to 10 eligible scholarship players. One of those is BBV who is only now starting to practice. It will likely take him a few weeks to get up to speed. Another is Hamline who would have redshirt written all over him if we had adequate depth. Remember, his original plan was to go to prep school this year and changed his mind shortly before the start of the year when he got our offer.
Admittedly I think Mike Davis was gonna do the same thing and I want to say he did quite well his freshman year. Mind you that’s super anecdotal and basically has no bearing on anything.

Not there in the summer and then unable to practice until 2 wks before season start. Lot to expect from a freshman. I think a delay is in order. Just hope it is this season.

I wonder if BU and Martin are going to get a real game scheduled one of these years.

Nice.

But, the question is if he is better than GB at this point in time.

Also, now with 20/20 hind sight, based on his FR performance, how many stars would you give GB if he were coming in this year as a freshman? Just curious.
With as little practice time as he has gotten so far, that seems difficult to imagine.

4 on GB, you have to remember GB started all 33 games last year. Not sure to many Illini have done that as a Freshman. Doubtful that BBV will do that.

so, time will tell.

Well. GB had no one ahead of him. BBV does have good, dependable players ahead of him. So, it is possible that BBV will never start. And, yet, if no one was there to start ahead of him, bet BBV starts all 33. Having said that I am speculating

I’ve been watching illini b-ball for 40 years... I can’t think of an Illini forward who had a freshman campaign better than Georgie
I'd put Deon's first year up there with Giorgi's. Of course, Deon was screwed out of his true freshman year. He went nearly16/7 in 90-91 - both better than Giorgi. Then again, one might argue that neither was a forward.

Ahh.. yes. How could I forget about Deon’s first season.

I'd say there is no chance BBV is ahead of where Giorgi was at this point last year. If he is, we are going to have a hell of a season.
