Michigan State 70, Illinois 69 POSTGAME

Nothing else to say but a gut-wrenching ending. That’s basketball — we get that rebound, win the game, and we feel infinitely better. Instead, it’s a 1 point loss, and our best player might be injured. Again, it’s basketball, and sometimes it sucks, and sometimes, it feels like being an Illini makes it suck that much more. Try to keep our heads up... nothing else to do at this point.

Can't make all those mistakes in the first half and shoot so poorly from the free-throw line. We definitely got jobbed in the second half. It's too much to overcome against a team like MSU. I hope Ayo is ok.

This was not a fake rally. By definition you don't take the lead in a fake rally. This was a real rally where we were winning the game with under 10 seconds left. Hats off to MSU. Too many mistakes early.

Hats off to the refs. That call on Ayo was so bogus. That just gave the game to MSU. I don’t typically blame refs in losses, but, that was ridiculous.

Some discussion on Reddit that the spot where Ayo slipped was the same spot the team huddled on the last TO. Someone is getting chewed out for not keeping the floor dry. Maybe dismissed. Probably justified.

I know we should have blocked out but what our guys did was such a natural reaction, everyone was trying to defend the shot. I can't fault them for that. Please, please, please be ok Ayo. You are the heart & soul Ayo!

We cant let Giorgi off the hook. Simply put...that was the worst performance ive seen by an Illini player in a long time. He brought nothing tonight.

MSU dominated him the first game too. It is a bad matchup for him.

Too much to overcome? WE TOOK the LEAD!

THEN we got hosed! The game was OVER after that steal!

Why? Did we not continue a well publicized trend of falling behind early, mounting a heroic comeback and then falling short in the win loss column? Or are you one of the moral victory people?
It's just tacky considering we had a closer with the ball in hand, down 1 at home with the last shot and it looks like he blew out his knee because of a freaking wet spot on the floor.
Just saying.

When Illinois took the lead, the refs made a few calls to keep Illinois from breaking it open. When you see it, you have to believe it's deliberate.

I’m of the opinion that if you’re down twenty, come back, and take the lead, then there’s nothing, absolutely nothing fake about the rally. Were you one of the people that turned the game off? That would be a FAKE FAN.

Hyperextended knee? It was bent -- the opposite of hyperextension.

looked like when he slipped there was an initial hyperextension when his knee locked then abnormal abduction. can’t find a replay but that’s what i think i saw. hope he’s okay

Ball of head for layup.
Worst foul call on Ayo I’ve ever seen.
Their final play.
The final play.

Emotional right now. No idea what to even think.

sprained knee. Few weeks or something. Please.

Kofi let Winston get too deep. I dont care if Tillman takes a open 18 footer. He's not making it in that situation.
Hope Ayo is ok

feeling sick for Ayo. no weight on leg not a good sign. Kofi's only responsibility on last play was to get rebound, not to go for block - it was basically a pass to Tilman. but really proud of the boys for comeback
I actually think Griffin is the one that over committed on that play. Griffin was not in position to block the shot but moved out of position needed to get the rebound leading to the dunk.

So in our gym, in a game where we are ranked higher, they get every call down the stretch to keep them in the game and people are saying the refs didn’t play a factor. I’m so sick of Tom Izzo and his act. Hey Tom, a lot of us see you. We remember you’re the guy that covered up several sexual assaults by your players. Even if the big ten doesn’t.
