I don't have any idea who should replace Lovie and his crew, but I'm ready for something different. This experiment isn't working.

Best case and most unlikely scenario is Fickell. Next best and equally unlikely is Harbaugh. After that I’m looking for an up and coming coordinator at a successful P5 program, or a winning coach at a smaller school. Pay whatever you have to, and do not settle. Worst case scenario is they decide the money isn’t there Due to Covid and Lovie comes back for one last year.

My vote is Hugh Freeze who is currently 7-0 at Liberty
I forgot about him but yeah do it if you can. Even if we get slapped by the NCAA, we’ll get talent in here and win some games first. Something has to be done to get this program competitive, get butts in the seats, and generate some excitement.

To win in football and basketball you either need to have history or be dirty. And we clearly don't have history

I thought Lovie was safe in 2020 because there would be considerable institutional resistance to making a coaching change after the COVId season but if you lose enough games badly enough there may not be a choice. 0-9 with nearly every game a blowout would force an athletic department’s hand even if it were the zombie apocalypse season and half of Champaign was wandering around muttering ”braaaains.”

He coached a good game today against Tech. His team was ready to play and he (IMO) out-coached Fuente.
It would be tough to argue that he isn't one of the best coaches in the country if you look at his track record There's no doubt in my mind he could win here but there's also no chance he comes here unfortunately.

We are arguably the worst Power 5 program right now. I doubt we can attract any head coach that is currently in the Power 5 or frankly second tier programs regardless of being in the Big Ten. It's going to have to be an up and coming coordinator or perhaps an FCS head coach.

Agreed. We can't simultaneously say we are the worst P5 football team and realistically expect to land one of the premier up and comer coaches.
Please stop with the Luke Fickell hopes. That dude will have his choice of where toAgreed

I know it’s true, but I still find it hard to believe the money we gave Lovie wouldn’t have garnered any interest from some good coaches.

The lone bright spot would be that we'd likely be one of the only programs looking. Not that makes us look any better to a coach who is good enough to wait out for his pick next season, but it's something.
