How to watch the Illini

#26
I moved from Hulu Live to YTTV about 2 years ago. i think it's a better platform (100% unlimitted on-line DVR) but not by a ton. YTTV upped their price a few months ago, but Hulu Live just announced they are upping to the same price as YTTV so there is no differentiation there.

YTTV just added a really cool "catch up to live with important plays" on most sporting events. Good if you don't want to watch everything but just see the TD's/Sacks/Dunks/whatever and then start watching live. Of course I'll never use that when the Illini are playing.

As for reliability, it works REALLY well but I also have 1GB internet with fiber directly in to my house, so I'm probably not a good baseline to compare to.

Just started a YTTV subscription this year to watch Illinois football and basketball. No real complaints with the service. Mobile app isn't the best, but is tolerable. I like that you can set your DVR to record all Illinois football games as a general category, instead of needing to select each game individually to record.

Most of the live streaming services have a free trial. I went through all of them, cancelling before they charged me. Hulu and YTTV are definitely the stand outs but are naturally the most expensive. If you’re just looking for sports, Fubo is less money and more sports focused.

Beware of FUBO . In 2019 we signed up for a one week free trial. Canceled after 5 days and they billed us for an entire month. If I can not double checked they would of kept billing us. We canceled online, had no evidence to furnish VISA to prove we canceled. Their customer support was for the most part non-existent. May be better now.

I have HuluLive and as someone who is always on the go, working occasional nights and weekends, my favorite part is how easy it is to watch a game on my phone through the app.
Sling Blue with the sports add-on doesn't include any ESPN or FS1, so you are out of luck if we have a nationally televised game. You would need the Sling Orange + Blue with the sports add-on the get everything that YTTV and Hulu has which would be $65.

I mean, I just report things like that as fraud anyway. The worst that can happen is the credit card company says no. I also typically tell the company who erroneously billed me and isn't being helpful that I am going to report them as fraud on my card.

It does have FS1 but doesn't have ESPN. How many games do we have that would be exclusive to ESPN anyway?

So far it's just the Baylor game, but the vast majority are still to be assigned. I think there's a reasonable chance there will be others on ESPN. I guess we'll see.

Recently switched to Fubo with additional streams and sports packs to supplement to the multi TV man cave. YTTV does not offer more than 3 streams simultaneously.

Just some random comments for people who may be considering FUBO. I appreciate the tips and hints others have shared. We started the FUBO free trial and learned that our Samsung Smart TV isn't so smart. It is a 2016 model, and the best video quality we get is 720p through the android app. A google search suggests that using chromecast will solve that problem. Our daughter is going to try a firestick to see if that helps. More later.

Highly recommend Roku over Firestick - but that may just be my experience.

Fubo doesn't have some of the other channels YTTV does and the Cloud DVR and capabilities to record by team (not sure of Fubo's interface) just it outstanding with YTTV. As I recall TruTV and TNT are crucial for March madness...

I actually have Sling Blue with the sports add on. I watch our game with Nebby on FS1, I believe that FS1 is part of the Sling Blue package.

Thought I would post here --had been using Hulu+ with no issues. Today the service was down so I contacted their customer service, got a terrible response, and eventually gave up and requested to cancel. They told me they would charge through the next billing cycle, which I objected to under the circumstances. They wouldn't budge.

No idea if this is typical for them or just a bad rep, but it's my only experience there. Will probably give youtube a try. Glad there are alternatives.

I've had ZERO problems with YouTubeTV. Way better service than MediaCom or DirectTV.

The only problems I've had with YTTV, since I watch all games on DVR, is sometimes the recording would go straight to "live" if it were in progress, even if I pushed "start from beginning." Also, YTTV used to display the game in progress on the home page, so I knew to block part of my view cause I did not want to know the score of the game. Haven't had either of those issues this year though. I think some sports fans probably provided some very stern feedback about NO SPOILERS, lol.

I am running Hulu Live through Apple TV. The menu is so frustrating and counterintuitive especially using the Apple TV remote that I almost feel like I have to be doing something wrong. I find it extremely cumbersome to flip back and forth between games.

Seems the only option is to hit menu and go back to recents menu and hope that the other channel has been added back into recents or manually add any channels that might have games I someday want to watch into “my channels”.

Even with both of those options I still have to go back and sort through a list looking for the game I want to switch back to. It is annoying enough I hardly even bother trying to flip back and forth between games anymore. It’s also super annoying that even when watching on delay I can’t fast forward through commercials even with the enhanced DVR option. But I have so much stuff DVR’d and I’m paid through the middle of January so I don’t want to switch back to YTTV until then.

Anyone else struggling with this? I feel like I must be missing something because I can’t believe a service can be this popular with such a poor user interface.
