Week 13 Games

Minnesota-Wisky cancelled for this weekend

Game has been cancelled due to positive covid tests within the Minnesota program. Not only does this cancellation mean Wisconsin is not eligible to play in the Big Ten Championship game (which was going to be tough to happen anyway after the Badgers lost to Northwestern last weekend) but it also ends the longest uninterrupted series in FBS history, dating back to 1907.

Based on some quick google/reddit searching, it appears the longest uninterrupted series in FBS history is now tied between the Bedlam series between Oklahoma and Oklahama State (who just played last weekend in Norman) as well as the NC State-Wake Forest game, both of which date back to 1910.

That's kind of a bummer. Hate to see history disrupted, but its probably the safe thing to do.

Heard it suggested today on XM College Sports Radio that they should play this game on the crossover week and have two of the Eastern Division teams that cancelled their game do the same. Sounds like a logical solution.

I feel for Wisky. They can't catch a break and they have a good team.

I believe they are under the threshold of games played to play week 9.

Lord knows Iowa will all of a sudden play perfect fundamentals football in a little over a week, but we have a legitimate chance to (FINALLY) beat them on December 5th if we play like we did last week and they play like they are right now, IMO.

I didn't watch the Nebraska/Iowa game, but the box score says Nebraska played Iowa even at Iowa. Nebraska 338 yds offense to Iowa's 322 yds. offense. Nebraska lost 2 fumbles and did not throw an interception. Iowa threw one interception and lost no fumbles. Illinois had 490 yds. of offense against Nebraska, so that is encouraging. I think our players are going to be hungry for wins against both Iowa (close battle in Iowa City last year) and Northwestern (29 - 10 loss to the 2-9 Wildcats in Champaign last year on Senior Day).

More reasons to declare Nebraska as the biggest cry babies of the Big Ten. Apparently sideline clapping by Iowa caused misplays by the Nebraska center.
Ferentz's reaction is interesting.

Couple of notes for today:

-They brought up BYU on Gameday earlier and how Vegas sees them against the teams in the top 13 of the CFP rankings. They only had them as a double digit underdog against Alabama. They still wouldn't be favorite against many teams but it's not as if they'd get blown out. They were only a 2 point underdog to Notre Dame. They were a pick 'em against UGA and Cincinnati.
-Could potentially have history in today's Vanderbilt-Mizzou game as Sarah Fuller, a goalkeeper on the Commodores' SEC Champion women's soccer team, will be the kicker for Vandy today and if she appears in the game will become the first woman to play in a Power 5 football game. Vanderbilt had a grad transfer kicker opt out before the season started and several of their specialists had to quarantine this week due to covid testing so Fuller tried out and was added to the roster this week.

After the ohio state cancellation and the indiana win it is looking increasingly likely that indiana will make it to the conference championship win or lose against wisconsin if ohio St gets another game cancelled.

Assuming northwestern wins out and beats a 2 loss indiana for the championship and ohio state beats a 1 loss wisconsin in the 3rd place crossover game does the big ten get 2 teams into the CFP?

Northwestern will be sitting at 9-0 with wins over ranked Indiana and Wisconsin. Ohio state would be at 6-0 also with wins against Wisconsin and indiana. This is the kind of chaos I hope we get in a season like this.

Can't imagine the Big Ten will get two teams when you've also got Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson (assuming Clemson beats Notre Dame in the ACC title game). I would enjoy the chaos that comes with sorting that out.

Of course, I prefer to think of NU as sitting at 8-1 in that scenario with a regular-season loss to Illinois.
MSU is beating the Nerds.

This raises an interesting question. Assuming clemson beats notre dame, would 2 undefeated B1G teams make it over 2 one loss ACC teams? Northwestern is definitely not a top 4 team and I would argue both Clemson and ND are but keeping out an undefeated Big Ten champion would be a ballsy move.

MSU beats NW. Good win for MSU. Look back at that PU game and say what if.
Tough to figure. I guess if you don’t know the back story on every game, and I don’t, you don’t know who’s been out even if it’s just practice. Inconsistent play seems to be the norm this year.

Buffalo RB Jarrett Patterson tied a single game TD record with 8 rushing TDs today in the 70-41 victory for the Bulls vs. Kent State. Patterson also rushed for 409 yards. The 8 rushing TDs ties Illinois' Howard Griffith who pulled off the same feat in 1990 vs. Southern Illinois.

Patterson was removed from the game, after he went over 400 yards, with Buffalo on the Kent State 23. Two rushing plays later Buffalo had their final TD. Had Patterson finished that drive he would have set a new single game rushing record (currently 427 yards by Perine/Okla) as well as a new single game TD record.
