Brad Underwood: We worked diligently to try and replace that [UT-Martin] game as well as we can. Had early communication with UConn and Baylor. UConn had a positive test. Talked with Baylor about playing a game here on Sunday.
Underwood: Simulated a game on Saturday just to keep everyone in game mode and spent an extra day preparing for Duke.
"We're excited about the challenge."
Underwood: Duke "has tremendous variety and flexibility." Can play big or small. Matthew Hurt is "outstanding" and can play the 5 and stretch the floor. Playing very aggressive on defense.
Underwood on freshmen growing on defense: "Most of these guys don't get their star rating based on their defensive performance. Let's be honest."
Underwood asked by @ALionEye if he's ever faced a gauntlet like No. 2 Baylor, at No. 6 Duke and at Missouri in his coaching career: "No. No. No."
Asked Brad Underwood about Duke freshman guard DJ Steward, whom he recruited: "I'm a big DJ fan."
Underwood said Ohio is going to be a "great win" for Illinois. Said Baylor is as good as any team he's seen this early in a season.
"We're going to find out how tough we are" at Duke and at Missouri.
Underwood called Matthew Hurt "maybe as close to [Luka] Garza" as they're going to see.
Underwood on BBV: He's on minutes restriction coming back. On minutes restrictions in practice. Being very conservative in his play back to full-go.
Underwood: "I won't be afraid to play Baylor again ... if we play them again [later in the season]."
Underwood -- never afraid of comps -- said Duke freshman Jalen Johnson "has a little Ben Simmons in him."
Underwood not worried about this week's implications on NCAA seeding.
"We got 20 league games, man."
Adds Big Ten doesn't need much nonconference for seeding.
Said it's about getting your team ready for the postseason.
