So the discussion of good wins, bad wins, good loses, bad loses....just wondering how this will play with the selection committee this year....since there aren't any fans in attendance....will a road win....like a win at Duke...will that be viewed by the committee more prominent than lets say a win at Michigan State or Wisconsin....will the selection committee use a little different criteria this year with these totally different circumstances

Did you guys get snowed in, BW?
Rain, Snow, temp hovering around 34, all made it tough on the snow blower but we dug out. Maybe 6 inches of snow, tops. Thanks for asking.

Brad Underwood: We worked diligently to try and replace that [UT-Martin] game as well as we can. Had early communication with UConn and Baylor. UConn had a positive test. Talked with Baylor about playing a game here on Sunday.

Underwood: Simulated a game on Saturday just to keep everyone in game mode and spent an extra day preparing for Duke.

"We're excited about the challenge."

Underwood: Duke "has tremendous variety and flexibility." Can play big or small. Matthew Hurt is "outstanding" and can play the 5 and stretch the floor. Playing very aggressive on defense.

Underwood on freshmen growing on defense: "Most of these guys don't get their star rating based on their defensive performance. Let's be honest."

Underwood asked by @ALionEye if he's ever faced a gauntlet like No. 2 Baylor, at No. 6 Duke and at Missouri in his coaching career: "No. No. No."

Asked Brad Underwood about Duke freshman guard DJ Steward, whom he recruited: "I'm a big DJ fan."

Underwood said Ohio is going to be a "great win" for Illinois. Said Baylor is as good as any team he's seen this early in a season.

"We're going to find out how tough we are" at Duke and at Missouri.

Underwood called Matthew Hurt "maybe as close to [Luka] Garza" as they're going to see.

Underwood on BBV: He's on minutes restriction coming back. On minutes restrictions in practice. Being very conservative in his play back to full-go.

Underwood: "I won't be afraid to play Baylor again ... if we play them again [later in the season]."

Underwood -- never afraid of comps -- said Duke freshman Jalen Johnson "has a little Ben Simmons in him."

Underwood not worried about this week's implications on NCAA seeding.

"We got 20 league games, man."

Adds Big Ten doesn't need much nonconference for seeding.

Said it's about getting your team ready for the postseason.

Coach Underwood's pressers are so enjoyable to watch...he explains things so well that i have a better understanding of the team and what goes into being a top program...
I really think BU is the right coach at the right time for the Illini....i will say without hesitation that the Illini have a great chance to win that first NCAA championship in the near future....he seems to know the right approach to guide a program to a very high level of production and I sincerely hope he is our coach for a long, long time.....JMHO

Illinois in 2 of the top 20 matchups this week according to Torviik. (Can't say I agree with the favorite in the Miznoz game)

Torvik is another quantitative attempt to rank teams. Right now, with few games under anyones' belts, there is a lot of uncertainty in how teams should actually be ranked (i.e. are we actually closer to #6 like the AP voters think or lower like the computer models). It's also unclear how he factors in home court and whether (or how much) that even matters this year. I don't put a ton of weight on the computer models this early.

Yeah, I can't say I put too much weight in the percentages they put out, especially at this point in the year. I think there's definitely a home court factor in there right now, how much is hard to say with no fans. My main reason for posting was that it's nice to be relevant again and playing in what are considered "top" games each week. With the Baylor game last week we will have played in 3 games in the last 2 weeks that were rated in the top 20 games of the week.

Keys to victory:
Kofi cannot get in foul trouble. Having a future 1st round pick sit half the game like he did against Baylor will not result in a W. Kofi needs a big game. 20/10 is a must.

Free Throws: They need to make there free throws. Nothing is more frustrating than watching missed free throws. If this Illini team wants to stay in the top ten they must make at least 80% from the line.

Ayo: Its is his team. Ayo must again have a big game. 20 plus, 8 assists 8 rebounds.

Adam, Damonte, Trent:

it would be a plus to see two out of the three in double figures. It’s not a must if Ayo and Kofi lead the way, but to get 60 points from the starting five will surely keep it close if the pace is fast.

The rest:
Gorgi and Cubelo could make a huge difference in energy and rotation if they bring the energy they have in the few games they have thus far.
I like Hawkins hustle and energy as well. And Grandison needs to hit a few 3’s.
If we could get 10/12 points from bench, energy in rotation, and some quality defense, I like our chances.
It won’t be easy going to Duke’s home court a grabbing a W. Fans or no fans. The Baylor game was a wake up call. If this team wants to win the big ten and get a number 1 seed come March a victory tomorrow would suit them very well. They hung with Baylor for a good 22/23 minutes. This time let’s hope they take one away from Duke. This would be a marquee victory and A highlight for all these young men.
Let’s Go Illini. Show us what you are made of!!!

#6 team in the nation (AP) and we will have been the underdog in three consecutive games.....or so it appears above.
Yeah, this is interesting to me. Even according to Torvik, we should be the better team in both of our next two games. So why are we the underdogs? Is it match-up specific?

Look at the Torvik ratings. MSU at 15 and Indiana 12. Indiana got stomped by Texas. Let someone explain how Iowa is 26. His computer has been hacked.

To answer my own question, I just remembered that both games are on the road. So maybe that's the difference.
