Time to move on. Do seniors get extra year because of Covid like basketball? If so, one plus about bringing in a new coach is that maybe some of the seniors come back to have a chance to go out with a better season. Might help offset what looks like will be poor recruiting class.

have we even tried to go after any of the top recruiters from bama?? clem?? get someone that can get top level players to come here. it's just painful to watch illini football!
Locksley was a great recruiter at Illinois, bounced around a bit, coached at Alabama and now he is Maryland’s head coach. Generally, top salesman/recruiters usually end up selling the top product. Given the trajectory of our program and the way current coaching contracts are set up, I am not sure any recruiter from an elite program would be interested in coaching here. What could they sell besides brand new facilities/good education? A defensive head coach who is perpetually disappointed in his team’s play when it’s his responsibility to get them to play well? I genuinely believe Lovie is the worst/most apathetic head coach in the Big Ten and we need to get rid of him before things will turn around.

So is there any serious rumblings of change?? Obviously everyone is mad we got whooped by nw again but I dont want to get my hopes up that jw is actually going to let lovie go and been searching for a new hc if hes going to give him a freebie year and its the same crap next year..

Leipold, Martin, Elliot, Lea, Pry, Freeman, Sarkisian, Butch, Scalley, Leonhard.....probably lots of others. Be nice to get someone in here to turn things around. You don’t spend money on a Football facility like that if they don’t care about wins. Lovie should step down.

6 wins? I didn't see 6 wins before the shortened session, 5 tops. That's unacceptable in year 5 of this dumpster fire.

5 wins. 6 wins. Not the point. I’m just saying if the full season played out and we won 5 or 6 games (and, mostly didn’t have multiple games where we were undermanned due to COVID), then I agree that’s not acceptable.

But we’d be in a better position to move on than we are now. And there would be more stability. The coaching market would normal. We wouldn’t have to reckon with this weird “freebie” year in terms of players and transfers.

i’m just saying of course Illinois is having to deal with all of this in a year with a global pandemic. It’s going to make everything harder than if we were dealing with an underwhelming year 5 under normal circumstances. This appears to be more of a dumpster fire than it actually is due to covid, and that sucks. Make no mistake, it’s time to move on, but feels like now we’re starting over instead of taking a minor step back but continuing to build.

Whitman still has a lot (deservedly so) of cache with fans. Underwood having a top 10 team helps a lot even though it's a different sport. If JW keeps Lovie he's going to go from being well liked by fans to getting crapped on every single time he makes public comments. Josh is an excellent communicator and salesman (I don't mean that negatively). But not even he could sell a sixth year of Lovie. I'm not smart enough to calculate the short term hit of a buyout vs the long term financial impact of complete apathy from a fanbase that won't donate money, buy tickets, and buy merchandise. But I'd imagine the short term hit seems much less painful.

I consider myself an optimist who tries to find the positives in every situation. I’ve been a big Lovie supporter from the day he was hired. I had such high hopes. Not anymore. Everyone who says this is not a real season so Illinois should keep Lovie seems to forget that every other team has had to deal with COVID, too. I am so disappointed and disgusted that not one Illini coach, much less Lovie, chose to be at the critically important zoom recruiting meeting for coaches yesterday. This is beyone lazy; it’s an irresponsible dereliction of duty. Our recruiting is worse than dismal. Players are starting to bail out/transfer/quit. I appreciate Lovie bringing some respectability back after Beckman and helping to get the awesome FB facility (wasn’t that more Josh?), but after five years, we're on a very visible downward trajectory, and it’s past time to move on. Please, Josh, find a coach who can make Illini football fun to watch again. I-L-L

Attribution bias. Fans attribute our failure to external circumstances (COVID) but attribute other teams failures to internal circumstance (ineptitude). Just trying to keep the kool-aid drinkers fresh on their social psych 101!

Yes everyone, including seniors get an extra year of eligibility. Not guaranteed tho. Up to the coaching staff.

Somebody more connected than most of us, please tell me there are rumblings and this change is gonna happen
I still see the chances as no more than 25%, but hope I’m wrong. Embarrass ourselves again next week and maybe that goes up to 50%. Certainly seems like the push is getting stronger from the outside. Hopefully enough to push JW over the line.

When JW keeps fielding calls and emails from unhappy parents,, I can’t imagine the influx of those this week. just agree to part ways and get someone here who will be ALL in!

Jim Leonard gets my vote; Badgers are #2 in scoring D, #1 in yards allowed. Their offense is terrible this year so they are really doing the heavy lifting
