Watching Northwestern, I feel they have a VERY good starting 5, maybe the most solid in the conference top to bottom. They also have 1-2 very good bench players but after that I think it falls off pretty steep. Get some starters in foul trouble, attack the basket. Frustrate Nance and Buie on defense and we can win this handily. Oh, and shoot at least 75% from FT...
I think you should make the same claim about illinois. After Ayo, Frazier, Da’Monte, Kofi, and Curbelo we have Giorgi and Miller. Behind them there’s a drop off to Hawkins, Grandison, and BBV. So that’s 7+1-2+ others.

If it’s that small I’m betting the house, Ira, and whatever else I can scrap together on the Illini. I’m not buying Northwestern.

I think the Big 10 is overrated below the top 3 teams. I think Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa are the clear top 3 teams. 3 good to possibly great teams. Any of these teams could make a Final 4. But after that I see a sizeable gap.

NW overrated. Michigan State overrated. Minnesota overrated. Teams like Michigan/Ohio State/Rutgers decent but nobody I see in the sweet 16. Then you got just bad teams in Purdue, Indiana, Nebraska, Penn State, Maryland.
Right now my eye test is as follows: Michigan looks like the best team in the league. Iowa won at Rutgers (unlike Illinois). Wisc, then Rutgers, then Illinois. The league is solid from top to bottom. Not every team is top 25, but every team is top 75. Illinois needs another big to produce (BBV, Hawkins, GB) consistenly, not turn the ball over as much, and shoot 70% from the line to move up in the pecking order IMO. Until then, they will lose some games they shouldn't. The other comments about overrated teams and bad teams is specious at best.

Iowa lost at Minnesota and Illinois beat Minnesota by 17, so why not base your opinion on that versus a 2 point win and a 3 pt loss for the teams at Rutgers. Wisconsin lost at home to a poor Maryland team. The best team will be decided at The end of the season but now it is just everyone's personal opoinion.

Need to see scUM win a road B1G game before I annoint them tops in the B1G....they are better than I thought but their schedule so far is suspect to claiming them tops in the league....Wagner has improved a lot and the transfers are filling the team out more than I thought.....Dickinson is a load but I think Kofi and giorgi will be ok against him...
just checked and they already have 2 road wins.....my bad....

NW with three 6’10” guys in Nance, Beran, and Young. Will we see more of Giorgi, Cole, and Jacob at the 4? They are playing faster but don’t believe they have Illini speed.

True...like I said it is my eye test...Minny defeated Mich St by 25, so is Ill 42 pts better than Mich St?

We actually beat Minny by 27, but further bolsters your point.

Hot take: PSU is a better team than Northwestern.

Illinois should win this game.

If I’m the only one, I surely won’t be the last by the time the NCAA tourney roles around. And there’s plenty of gimmes in this league for true Final 4 teams.

Name a true final four team in any league other than Gonzaga or Baylor? For all we know Iowa could lose in the second round and Wisconsin could make it to the final four. Also, if you aren't Gonzaga there are hardly any gimmes for any top 25 team out there. Especially in the Big. This season will be chaotic and exciting because anyone can beat anyone in this league.

I have a sneaky feeling this will be Adam Miller’s best conference game of the season to this point, being back in Chi-town area

Not saying that at all, just can't say Iowa is better than Illinois because of two close games at Rutgers had different endings. I also believe Illinois is better than Wisconsin.

Agreed
Turnover-ration ( Iowa - 1st - Ilini 14th,
Free throw percentage (Iowa 73% Illini 68%)

Our field gold and 3 point shooting is ahead of Iowa
Rebounding is about equal

Numbers confirm what we already know, cut down on turnovers, make more free throws

Northwestern is overrated, their signature wins are looking worse and worse as the season moves along.

Show up locked in and we should win by 15.

Tuesday Neb/Purdue game has been postponed
Our positive test rate in Omaha is 34% and 40% in Lincoln, so would I be surprised if this one was on the Huskers? No. Not at all.
It also will mark a full calendar year since Nebraska has won a B1G mens basketball game.

A ray of optimism...this offense is probably at its statistical floor for the year.
Miller and Trent have combined for more than 50% of our 3pt attempts in B1G games this year and are shooting 29%.
Once either of those two guys start making their shots, and they will, this offense is going to flambe some teams.

Word choice "like".

We are the most talented team in the league. But are we currently the best TEAM in the league right now? I can’t say we are with complete confidence. I’d like to say in a month we will all be fully believing we are both the most talented/best team in the conference.

NW concerns me immensely. Don't think for a second the won't come out hot. Illini need to run them into the ground and score early and often. Much depends on Frazier and Miller hitting shots and Ayo being aggressive from the git go. Not too concerned about defense as they understand they have to bring it, but slow starts hitting shots, not getting Kofi the ball early, turnovers, and poor FF shooting have to stay in Champaign. Kofi has to bully them as well as being aware he has shooters open on the perimeter and getting it back out quickly if doubled. Conditioning and depth will pay off if there are no sustained scoring droughts.

But if this game gets slowed down and Illini shoot sub 60% from the line, this game will go in the L column.

Which big is going to be "Good Kipper" in Evanston? Hawk or Grand? One of them must.

I would really like to see shot-fakes and drives to the basket from Ace Wolf against Northwestern, even if it means picking up an offensive foul. Get the ball on the floor a couple of times with aggressiveness and it'll open things up from the arc.
