Someone on this site said it before (can't find the post or I would've tagged it), but the similarities between the Hambly->Tamas and Self->Weber transitions are eerily similar. I dont follow volleyball a ton, but I haven't seen much on the recruiting side, disappointing to not be ranked either. Hopefully he can turn it around, but the downturn is concerning.
I think it's too early to say the conclusion will be the same. But it's hard to deny Hambly's recruits brought most of Tamas' current success.I think it's way too early to make that comparison

O'Brien is far and away the leader in digs for Texas at 3.63/set. The next girl is barely over 2. Texas is currently undefeated and ranked second in the country. Illinois, of course, isn't playing this fall but is not ranked in the current AVCA rankings which includes both teams that are playing fall ball and those who are not. Hambly's Stanford squad is ranked third. Wisconsin, with a roster sporting a lot of Illinois talent, is the top ranked team in the country.I don't think its too early. If you look at their records, they are nearly directly on track with each other except Weber's 3rd year was better than Tamas 3rd year.
Each coach got to the Final 4 with the prior coach's players.
Each coach has struggled in recruiting/replacing the cogs from those Final 4 teams. O'brien saying she was done with volleyball, only to transfer to Texas to play for them is a huge red flag. Plus, the girl that came back from Auburn wasn't utilitized well at all last year. There's alot to be concerned with. Hambly was Bill Self level. And Tamas may indeed be Weber level
They did tonight. Tamas has tinkered with it in the past but never committed to it. Not sure he'll stick with it this year, either. So are they running a 6-2 offense this year?
You seem to be in the know on the golf team, WBB and volleyball as you have good insightThey did tonight. Tamas has tinkered with it in the past but never committed to it. Not sure he'll stick with it this year, either.
Comes from the futility of following Illini football for ~60 years. You seem to be in the know on the golf team, WBB and volleyball as you have good insight
I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. I watched highlights of the Wisconsin/Purdue match and almost every Wisconsin highlight featured either Rettke, Loberg, or Barnes. Not only does Wisconsin have a lot of Illinois players on their roster, but their most important players are from Illinois high schools.Wisconsin, with a roster sporting a lot of Illinois talent, is the top ranked team in the country.

Somewhere over the past couple of years, I remember that Tamas got the National HS Player of the Year. I'm not sure that I understand the recruiting comment.Someone on this site said it before (can't find the post or I would've tagged it), but the similarities between the Hambly->Tamas and Self->Weber transitions are eerily similar. Ellie Holzman (now out for the season) was Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year in 2018-19.Somewhere over the past couple of years, I remember that Tamas got the National HS Player of the Year. I'm not sure that I understand the recruiting comment.
