They might as well make his title Interim Head Coach Lovie Smith because mone of what the Texans are doing will end well for anyone.

Let’s see what happens when all he has to focus on is D and is given a roster full of really good football players to work with.

I am going to take a positive approach on this. I hope that this may be good for players like Jake Hansen and Nate Hobbs.
Only if they are going to get actual coaching but seriously its prob gonna get them a camp invite

One gets the sense Houston knows they’re about to launch a massive 2-3 year rebuilding project, without their franchise QB or long time defensive leader, and that the coaches that will shepherd them through those consecutive 1-2 win seasons are basically cannon fodder. Why else would you hire a 65 year old journeyman position guy with no prior head coach experience to lead your team? Bringing in Lovie to run the defense is, shall we say, consistent with that theory.

I agree with all of this. The part that doesn't make sense is the new, first timer at GM. He's either been promised a ton of time and been forced this by ownership and these first few years are just throw aways or he's pretty much flushing away his first chance at the GM level.

Was anyone else thrown back that Josh McCown was a legit candidate for HC????
Love him, seems like a really great dude. But no coaching experience to HC in the NFL? They are pulling that crap in baseball already. I never thought it would make it to the NFL

Some of the personal shots at Lovie and his family are kind of uncalled for on here.

As a parent I’m sure it hurts him deeply what his son got involved with in Arizona. Maybe some of you don’t have kids.
I have 4 kids, and I am still going to take shots at Lovie and his family. I am more disturbed by his decision to hand his inexperienced son hundreds of thousands of dollars for a job he clearly did not earn and was clearly in over his head, than the fact one of his other son’s is an alleged pimp. It is decisions like the Miles nepotism by Lovie that proved he was more interested in his or his families/friends personal gain than trying to build a winning program. Decisions like these and that he was too lazy to be bothered to recruit leave him and his son open to criticism. I don’t think it is uncalled for.

I happen to agree with you fully, but I also believe the Miles hiring was a severe oversight failure by JW. Perhaps it's difficult as a younger, less experienced boss to say no to your more accomplished, senior employee, but that hiring never should have been allowed.

I agree. JW should not have allowed Miles being hired as LB coach.

Good luck to Lovie on his new coaching gig. I hope he makes the Houston Texans become the 85 Bears. I remember reading a post about Lovie several years ago. His problem is he hasn't been in the college game for years and that will hurt him and his recruiting.

He also hasn't coached in the NFL for 5 years, or for a team with a winning record in 8. I'm sure, though, that his Cover-2 will be the trick to stop the likes of Mahomes, Josh Allen, or even Ryan Tannehill. /s
