This year is a redshirt year for everyone, even though they are playing. Curbelo next year would be a freshman eligibility wise.
Does this 'redshirt' year for everyone mean that a player can no longer take a 'regular' redshirt year on top of it?

I think it means that no one should take an official redshirt. Everyone gets the "redshirt," so take any playing time you could get.

Playing this year has no impact on future eligibility for fall and winter sports. If a guy hasn't already had a red-shirt season, he can still use one. Playing this season simply doesn't count.

My understanding was 6 years to play 4 instead of the regular 5/4.

Edit: Bigguns has it right. This year doesn’t count in any way.

Dear Brandon Podzensky,

I hope you come to UofI, that way 95% of fans on IllinoisLoyalty can misspell your name for 4 years. 😜

Sincerely,
Georgi

Biggest concerns next year? PG if TF doesnt return, C if Kofi doesnt return? SG/Wing seems locked and loaded. I'm actually not overly concerned if Giorgi is a highest minutes getter at C, he's played better defensively this year. I would prefer he not be that guy, but I dont see someone like BBV or Hamlin stepping up.

I think at minimum we are down a PG and big at this point.

Sorry to disagree, but I like Curbelo at point, unless you are talking about depth, in which case, hoping for a xfer as back up.

Interesting view....Curbelo is a star IMO, so other than finding a backup for him we should be set for the next few years

I'd like to think that Adam Miller could possible develop into a Brandon Paul type of point guard. Not a true point, but good enough to handle it.

I also think that Trent will probably be back, just totally guessing.

Didn’t someone say Hutcherson was good enough to run *some* point as needed? I guess that would also depend on if he can ever play basketball again.

I want Trent and DMFW to come back so bad...not so much for the team success, but for them to hear and see 16,000 orange clad fans blow the top off the AHSFC for their "Senior Night"!

Those dudes deserve it after all they've been through here! Never wavered. Orange blooded.

I share your sentiment. To be fair though - they did experience all the hype and buzz last year. Games were at max capacity. I only wish they could have a true senior sendoff.

I see next years lineup as Curbelo, Trent, Miller, Grandison/Williams, Kofi/Giorgi. That's not bad, assuming Trent, DMFW, and possibly Kofi return. Also assuming no Burnett or a big like Krutwig transfers in. Again, not a bad lineup with plenty of experience and some budding star power.

It’s crazy that WI starts an all senior lineup this year, and may do so next year... with the same players.
No way Gard will want to return the exact same starting 5 next year. At some point you have to move on and get new guys into the system.

I'm just so pumped we might have Frazier back next year. I love that dude so much. This is no means meant as a slight to Ayo (just a comparison since Ayo's also a fave) but I think I'll miss having Trent around this team more than anybody on this team. He's symbolized Illinois basketball as much as Malcolm or Paul over this last decade.

If he returns, my only other wish is that Mark Smith also returns so we can finally beat his a** in the rivalry game.:mad:

Huh? Coaching is about wins and losses, not how many players you can develop. At some point, these guys will have to move on... At some point. He has a really good team. Why on Earth wouldn't he want them to move on before they have to? It isn't as though there are always a bunch of 5 stars lined up to go to Madison. The Wisconsin formula is built on veteran players.
