Sounds like DaMonte’s replacement. Lock down defenders shouldn’t be undersold. Actually have trouble seeing any frosh starting next year even if Kofi, Trent, and DaMonte leave. Belo, Ace, Grandy, Hawk, and Giorgi would be pretty solid. Big transfer would change that and still open time for 1-3 but love to see one starting as would have to better than we now have and they look pretty good.Here's the profile that describes him as an"athletic freak". Speculating that Melendez has zero impact on Burnett's decision. Those two are complementary pieces. I would think Nimari's concern is more about whether or not the National POY returns next season. (And that's not going to happen!)FWLIW, I'll be very surprised if Melendez's commitment has an impact on Burnett's decision. Then again, there's an infinitesimal chance I'm wrong.

There is no basis for " Freak " discrimination in the Illini program...If a " Freak " helps win games then we should welcome Freaks with open arms....

Going into next season I still think we need a PG back up to Curbello unless Trent returns. We may need to pass on a big man transfer with Giorgi, Hamlin, BBV, Hawkins returning.
Grandison, Melendez, and Goode strike me as stretch 4 during small ball. Possibly add Hawkins to this as well. I dont see Hutcherson on roster next season unfortunately.
Probably 1-2 transfers next season along with departure of Kofi and Ayo.
Likely no final word on Burnette or final roster spots until end of season and final decision of who is returning.

If he signs with us his athleticism is freakish. If he signs elsewhere it's just good. Seems pretty straight forward to me.
That’s what this staff has been great at that the previous two weren’t. The kids we are getting are going the right direction unlike in the past. No one that started in the top ten that end up around 100.
