It's real simple he wants to play, Underwood says we're losing Ayo you've got a path to playing time.

Underwood also now knows, if he doesn't play, he will transfer. So the knowledge is on the table for both parties. I want to play, ok the path is there, earn it and it's yours.

To me if everyone but Ayo stays, Curbelo, Burnett, and Frazier are your starting guards.
Also look at all of the PT Miler, Curbelo and Hawkins get (less so for Hawk). No guarantees, but BU will play the new guys if they're good.

I forgot about Miller. I'd probably start Burnett, Miller and Frazier. Curbelo off the bench unless he can play under more control.

People talk about ayo influencing burnett's decision. I don't think it's ayo. He's gone, everyone knows that. It's Frazier and Williams he's likely watching. If they both leave then it's Curbelo, Miller, and Burnett in the backcourt with a lot of minutes to play. If Williams only comes back not a big deal, but if both come back, Frazier will be the guy and take 30 minutes. He's the bigger draw on minutes. I'm 1 million % positive ayo will get 0 mpg next year.

Totally agree
he has to be concerned with frazier, dmw, miller, and curbello all fighting for starter

Unless Melendez doesn’t choose us, in which case, we’d love to have you, Podz, and you’re the only one we ever wanted.
You are correct but he should know the score here and know who we are looking at. I would love to have the kid but this waiting around can hurt you in the long run.

If I had a choice, it would be to tell Monte that next year is not an option. I would keep Trent but as an 6th man if we get Burnett, Podz/Melendez, and another PG to add with Goode, we will be set. I would go with Belo, Miller, Burnett, Hawk and Kofi/Giorgi/5th year transfer if Kofi leaves. We need to move on from Monte. If Hutch is heathy and Grandy stays, there will be no minutes for Monte. It is really hard to tell what is going to happen as there will be free movement by hundreds of players after this season. We may lose a player or two along with Kofi? and Ayo. It the complete unknown. When the championship game is over, it could be like baseball free agency. Put your seat belts on as this could be a wild ride this spring/summer
So you're tossing a multi year starter whos shooting 60% from 3 for potential?

Since the scholarship is a freebie, I would be happy to welcome Monte back. He knows that he has to earn whatever he gets. If he earns it, great, if someone else does, so be it.

It seems coach places a ton of confidence in monte and plays him even when he is having an off night and leaving his man open. Reminds me somewhat of groce leaving nunn on the bench until rhe season was over. However, monte can rebound his weight and maybe would be a good two or three instead of a small four

Trent comes back as a 6th man???????
An elite defender capable of hitting big shots and handling the point ....don't think so....If it is a freebie for both TF and DMW, then welcome them back with open arms...I have to believe BU would be able to handle that situation with aplomb and it would benefit the Illini immensely as far as leadership and depth...

I am not belittling Trent. He is a bulldog and he could be the Feliz type guy off the bench. How many times have we said this year how we miss Feliz. A lot. Trent can fill that role and still get minutes.
not arguing with you....doubtful Trent would be happy with your description of his role if he comes back....Therefore , I would think TF and BU would have a heart to heart before TF makes any decision....BU plays TF and DMW because he values their play ...Who would take TF's starting position from him ???
DMW might see diminished mins, but TF wouldn't....JMHO

The uncertainty around Kofi, Trent, and DaMonte makes it really tough to project next year, not only in terms of how good we'll be, but even the way in which we're going to try and play.

Regardless, the biggest thing that could happen between now and then is Curbelo learning to shoot. He's gonna be able to compose symphonies out there if he can make his guy guard him out to 24 feet.

Curbelo, Miller, Burnett, Hawkins and Giorgi could potentially be an absolutely terrible basketball team. You've got to be able to stretch the floor. Our current team can shoot *just* enough to make all of our other great elements work. But getting even slightly worse in that department could be really damaging.

Expect Hawk, Grande, and Giorgi to play the four and DMW to play the three but obviously depends on weather the recruits are bigs, pgs or wings. Do not agree that four stars will replace 4 year starters on a top ten team. Kind of the grass is always greener until they play like frosh.

Now this is assuming we get Burnett, we start Burnett, Belo and Miller then Hawk and whoever the center will be. If Burnett does not come back, Trent will be in the lineup and we will run a small back court. You are right, BU and Trent will have a series of discussions before any decision is made. It is going to be a crazy offseason though with hundreds of players moving.

I think BU assumes nothing in recruiting compared to TF who stayed with the Illini when BU took over........

I'm still pondering your premise..............

I'm torn..........sorry, too many variables assumed and not plausible to me at all.....Lets get RJ tonight, and then see about NB before we get too far ahead of ourselves....

recruiting is too fluid to start assumptions now, as you yourself stated crazy times ahead...BU will do whats needed to keep us in the thick of high level college BB

Flabbergasted. Do people watch the games?

DaMonte is our third best player, and closer to 2nd than 4th.
Stop it. Trent is a much better player. Ace probably is as well. Damonte is a solid player, but he’s not the third best player on the fifth best team in America.

that did he and Trent stuck is out through the very lean years and deserve to go out how they want.

You would play Burnett over Curbelo? I’d say Curbelo is more proven at this point. I would go with the dude with the Fro making a huge leap as a soph as the game slows down. Would be interesting either way, and I hope we have the choice.

You want to bench a four year starter for a transfer who didn't start at his previous school?
