All joking aside, I want players that are confident in their abilities. How that confidence manifests (flexing, calmly heading to the other end of the floor, pantomiming shooting ice water into their vein, etc, etc) makes no difference to me as long as it doesn't draw a T or doesn't involve taunting an opponent. Cardet looks like a winner to me and we would be very fortunate to land him.
I agree. When these Illini play their best, they play with emotion. If that's what it takes to keep your energy up, I say go for it. Give me flexing, floor slapping, and primal screams. Most of these kids react better to that kind of swagger than they do to guys who "act like they've been there before". If you have a group of guys who feed off the energy of their teammates, acting like you've been there before does nothing for them. If it isn't your personality, you really can't fake it, but every team needs guys who bring that energy. It might ruffle the feathers of "old school" types, but they players on the court don't really take that stuff personally. It's just part of the game.

Just make sure you get back on defense.

Dee would pop his jersey and James would scream after nearly every dunk. Let the kids have fun.

Getting back on D is my biggest concern when a guy does it after every made basket.

I hope so. I loved it when Gentry was brought on board. Knew he would pay big dividends down the line. He's one of those great bball minds who lives diving into the analytics and X's and o's and doesn't necessarily want to deal with the politics, motivational speaking, and the spotlight of being a head coach. He's like our Theo Epstein. I can relate because I'm cut from that same cloth.
Are you Gentry?!?! True insider!!

Kind of getting anxious for the next commit. Hoping its Burnett but like Cardet a lot. 0440 any ideas when that could happen and who do you feel the staff is leaning toward? Thank you for your info
Saw on tweeter that Burnett said it will be April when he announces. Hoping that means he is waiting for Ayo to officially announce and then he will commit to :hailtotheorange:

When is the NBA draft? Or more precisely, what is the deadline for withdrawing from the draft and returning to school? Might Burnett wait until then?

Exactly. Pick your spots for that type of stuff. Close game going down to the wire, save it for after the horn goes off, IF we win. Love the confidence, tho.

I was surprised last year when a video with Gentry went out explaining what the Illini are trying to accomplish on offense. You don't see assistant coaches getting the spotlight very often. This told me a lot about Underwood. He apparently is not threatened by others on his staff getting credit.

He has mentioned often that "we" are constantly challenging each other and what we do. He doesn't want a bunch of "yes men".
This is a great comment! You are spot on IMO. Great leaders are humble enough to know their weaknesses and surround themselves with people who have strengths in those areas. The willingness to evolve and not be threatened by other voices in the room tells me Underwood is not an insecure person at all. This program is in good hands with BU.

Not really sure. I haven't watched an NBA game in 20 years, don't follow it, and don't care for it. But, you are correct, very well may set a date past the point of no return. Or, if he hires and agent
