Illinois 76, Michigan 53 Postgame

Can't be understated. Funny thing is, you could tell Ayo would try to start games deferring to others so it wasn't just his show. But something about having the clear-cut best player on the court makes it tough for other guys to grab the reins, I guess. I still want to give Izzo a taste of his own treatment for what he did to Ayo, but this could all be a blessing in disguise. Our freshmen can play and this team is good even without the big two, and now everybody knows it.
Which pretty much explains why Trent seemingly never drove the ball to the rim....and all of a sudden...without Ayo....he did it in the last two games more than his combined efforts all season. This has been a huge and noticeable difference....and very successful and productive. Huge props to Trent Frazier for leading this team to a new level of play. n

Has anyone gone to the Wolverine blog to see what they are saying?
I went during last half of second half. Mostly pissed at their team about getting steam rolled and having no heart. Not much complimentary about Illini, and some comments about Illini being smug pricks. But to be honest Illini players do yap a bit, and I can see other fans not enjoying that —especially when getting trounced.

Exactly, Ayo isn't a ball hog. He tries to get the team involved. I think when Ayo gets back, the other guys will become more aggressive. and that just makes it even easier for Ayo.
I hope you are right, everyone else deferring, doesn't help the team.

naw man, theres been one or two PG threads where 1-2 guys in particular argue to the death that he isnt good, saying things like 'hel lead us to a first roudn exit' and worse.
Feed them crow. It's curbelo's team starting next year.

Have to admit that Walmart guy had a point. “The Zippo” DID score 4 more points than Kofi from the line. Really close to turning the tide in our 23 point win. Had to sweat that out for sure. Can look forward to that guy being a master pre-game analyst in the near future.

Saw this article before the game, came up on my Google feed on my phone - https://wolverineswire.usatoday.com...n-basketball-fans-should-know-about-illinois/.

Here's a great quote from the Michigan sportswriter, "Illinois is such a offensive power because they aren’t that great on the defensive end."

Can't wait to read the moron's next article. Kind of wish I had Twitter to troll him.
Sorry responding to my own post, but someone else wrote the follow-up article for wolverineswire - https://wolverineswire.usatoday.com...higan-basketball-vs-illinois-fighting-illini/. Guess Trent Knoop couldn't type with his foot in his mouth.

That their team had an off night and their three best players shot 4-24. Which was, of course an act of God and had nothing to do with the Illini defense. Basically: "Every team plays some clunkers." Literally.

Denial without much exploration of vulnerabilities. Maybe that will come tomorrow after the shock wears off.

OTOH we might well see Michigan again a week from Sunday. It's reasonable to assume that they'll play a bit better.

I say this with all seriousness: can someone in the state of Illinois please find a way to set aside 13 doses of vaccine for this team? Would be heartbreaking for the bug to spoil this run.
I would give up my spot in a minute. Unfortunately, my spot is sometime late Spring.
