Yeah they still only have 2 losses. Plus I would love to have that draw with alabama as our 2 seed. Cade Cunningham as the 4 little scary but still. I think we can go to final 4 in that draw
I believe OK St. Has a post-season ban this year. I'm confused as to why Lunardi would include them in his bracket.

Seems like something an idiot would do... oh.. wait... Makes perfect sense.

They don't have one. They appealed and no ruling has come down from the NCAA yet, so their postseason ban will likely be in effect next season, without Cade Cunningham.

One of the few instances where I'm glad for another team pushing their ban down the road. I selfishly want to see Cade in the tourney.

Was uncertain about taking Hutch and Grandison, but that was a great call. And Hawkins has been better than I anticipated. Our staff knows what they are doing.
As an aside, on the IG posts Hutch is wearing an Illini shirt. Has to bode well for him coming back here next year, right?

Mebbe it was his only clean shirt.

Given his injury history and the lack of D1 ball, I very highly doubt he'll be drafted. I'm pretty confident he could get a FA tryout with any number of teams (especially considering his NBA connection), but I'm thinking teams would like to see him get through a D1 season.

I guessing that he was speculating about Hutch going to another D1 program. Earlier in the year, folks on the board were speculating (as is done too often for me preference) who would transfer out and Hutch was a leading candidate. I hope it doesn't happen. I know it happens every year, but I don't want anyone to transfer.

Of course, I could be completely mistaken.

Exactly- he had Michigan in the same bracket as Ohio St all day today as well- which obviously can’t happen by the bracket rules (you know the thing that he’s supposedly an expert in!)

Not happening. If Hutch plays any more college ball, it'll be for Illinois.

Drafted? Out of D3?

The Hutch NBA draft narrative is...perplexing. He's recovering from a pretty serious injury, having never played high major college basketball.
What am I missing other than the hottest of Loyalty hot takes her? His connections will get him drafted or at least an NBA tryout? A stress fracture to his back is...not as serious as it sounds?

Have you checked Instagram lately?

Yes, but only at your prompting. Austin's account is mostly photos of himself in uniform and with his girlfriend, pretty benign stuff. I did watch the video posted by the NBA talent developer and yes, he's got mad hops, but nothing changes from my original question:
What am I missing from a player who has never played D1 ball and is rehabing from a broken back...why does an NBA team take such a gamble on a draft pick? Or is it strictly a try-out; back door route through the G League or something. I don't watch NBA and obviously don't evaluate NBA talent for a living.

I'll state this another way. I know jack about basketball. But if Austin Hutcherson is in the NBA next year, I'll happily eat crow. For a week. And I'm vegan. Until then, I'll stand by my 1st Amendment rights and opine that these are wild hot takes.

I believe it’s been insinuated on here Hutch wouldn’t be back, either due to health or other reasons. I was just saying his Illinois shirt is a positive for him coming back.

6’6 athletic shooter, he certainly has a shot at the NBA someday, but no way is he getting drafted at this point IMO.

I believe it's the 5th amendment that states a person has the right to remain silent.....everyone has that right.....but not many have the ability!

I would like to make an analogy here. I read somewhere but since I cannot find it and I drive a semi, so search is difficult, I read that someone said are we better without Ayo play? Sorry for the typos, as I said I’m driving a semi. Sometimes the text doesn’t work from the microphone perfectly. Anyway, back to the conversation, The analogy I use is chess. I am a chess player. Not a great one, not even a good one, but I play anyway. My analogy is this: if we have a L on the court Ayo would be the queen, because the queen is the most powerful piece, and AL being our best player. No, if I have all of my nights bishops and Brooks out and the other player has only the queen, I will win, regardless of their rating, I would suspectThat I could easily beat even Magness Carlson in those situations. So, I am quite there with our other players not being involved, and having a applying. I think it’s an app analogy. I hope this was not to illegible, because I cannot see it

I feel like Cunningham has to be the only reason they allowed this to be pushed down the road. After losing out on tourney money last year, they want another reason for people to be motivated to watch games.

I guess I'm the idiot for believing a NCAA sanction would have any teeth whatsoever. I'd hate to see a team punished in a year where it would actually serve as a punishment.

I don't think its so much about him going to the NBA next year just that his skill set and athleticism make it a real possibility for the future, which is surprising for an underrecruited D3 transfer.
